What is the job like day to day? Would love to read about some of the “challenges” of working for a company like CSA

The Dominican 21st Aug 2018 05:15

Can someone please post the destinations that the foreign crews are scheduled for on the 77 & 78? Typical layovers ?

Thank you!

Airbus guys, be VERY wary of a pretend “training captain” from the current CSA Oz ranks who is allegedly selling his services in the sim to help you prepare for the screening. He doesn’t know sh!t from clay and will gladly take your USD$3000 while leading you up the garden path. Just ask the last couple of people he “helped” who both failed before getting online.

Hi Gents, looking for a Capt 777 position in CSA commuting to/from Europe and the CAN 10/20 mode and I have a few queries.
Can you add 1-2 leave days to the string of consecutive 10 off?
Are you able to select the specific string of days off (departing can on xx date)?
can you add 10+10 string of days off for a longer vacation across 2 months period?
Is it possible to get extra emergency days without pay?
After the training phase are you qualified as PIC in full?
Do you flight both the pax and the freighter?

Thank you in advance.

Normally yes

Normally yes, might be a different story in particular months like December.

Back to back is possible usually after line training is completed

This needs to be approved by the fleet, but in case of emergency should be possible.

You're a full PIC, however will take a while before being appointed as leader Captain on international flights.

..............

...............

Hhmmmm hold on a second. Lets give the OP a little more clarity on this one.

When you finish training, your name will indeed appear as Cap on the flight log compared to FO when you are in training so you could say this means you are a PIC.
However you are signed off as a B Captain. By the OM this means you can take off and land with a C FO or higher however 777 fleet view that differently. As a B Capt on 777 you can ONLY take off and land with an instructor in the RHS and not with an FO. Sooo do you think you are really PIC when you are not even able to land with an FO?!?

Bear in mind that B Cap status can stay for a long time too. Some guys only progress to C after more than 1 year as a B even if they have flown the 777 for 5-10 years before 😩😩

When signed as C Captain then you might be designated as PIC on domestic flights. Perhaps later on as PIC on international but at present there are about 15 international leader Captains on 777 out of almost 100 foreign pilots just to give you an idea.

Just wanted to give you a bit more insight.
Hope if helps.

Cheers,

WTH is a leader captain?

blueonblue 10th Sep 2018 05:14

Above post is correct, you may go four years without ever achieving ‘leader’ status, ie the pilot in overall command of a long haul international flight. At C Capt you will be the sole captain for domestic flying only but second captain on internationals. There are a few foreigners flying leader Capt on cargo Europe only, a number of Korean Capt doing cargo only USA and a hallowed few on the pax fleet (777). You will also need to learn off the 8 do and 1 don’t. Do instrument approach when you should etc. And you will be reported by your colleagues for a single bottle of wine in your luggage despite this being legal carry.

Its like ‘Dear Leader’, except in an airline environment. Hence ...... Leader Captain. I’ve included an example below. Leader Captain is on the left. Captains are in the background; cheering from the stands. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Just finished my 330 screening and when were in town we were told to avoid this Melbourne guy. We heard he is always aggressive, has no Airbus training quals or experience, he insists that everyone does it his way, not the CS way, he has pissed off his bosses so often he was told he should quit. He also enjoys the odd fist fight with his co-workers. Dont know why he is charging USD$3000/ AUD$4000,

Thank you for the information. Our group of 330 captains were told training takes 4 months and we would do mostly domestic flights for the first year. We had a talk from a manager who said that some may have to be based in Beijing and some other city which I cant remember. He said Paris base is full so we could be based in Rome. He said dont make mistakes and he laughed. Some of us are current 380 and asked if we could fly 380 instead, but the answer was in Chinese so we are not sure what he said.

flyonthewall 29th Sep 2018 04:09

No Maven, MASTEMA or whoever you are today, he’s from BNE, not MEL. He’s the fat one with no friends. He actually got fired from his last job. That should narrow it down for you....

MAVEN 29th Sep 2018 10:08

WTAF? I just was responding to your post and repeating what the Crown guys told us. Nice welcome to CS for us, sounds like a happy place. We will be based in Beijing anyway.

Count von Altibar 29th Sep 2018 12:22

Flip me this guy sounds like a bit of a nightmare. It's that kind of behaviour that ruins expat jobs hopefully he leaves for pastures new asap.

MAVEN 29th Sep 2018 22:33

Accommodation question please? They said a new contract was coming and payment for accommodation when training and after is changing. Any news on this? Any ideas for Beijing accom? When does the new airport open? Thank you:O

airdualbleedfault 30th Sep 2018 03:24

Hi Maven,

I can’t comment on Airbus training time but certainly 4 months on the Boeing even for rated guys is IMPOSSIBLE.
Perhaps the Airbus fleet are much more efficient. Hope so for you.

All I would say is be very careful what information from CSA you make your life decisions on.
Until very recently, FCO was a 787 route so if that happens again then bang goes your A330 ‘base’.

Some guys asked about the A380 before and it was a big fat NO. They only have 5 of them so can easily fill if with locals and the life on the 380 is fantastic due to the few routes that they do so they won’t be giving those spaces up so easily 😩😩

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Cheers

MAVEN 1st Oct 2018 23:03

Mach85 thanks again. A few guys contacted me and said much the same. I think the manager meant (not sure) that we would fly Beijing Rome which is why it could be a 330 base. Our group is doing the CAAC check mid October so we hope to get some more info then. Reading through the posts and talking to Crown guys it sounds like there are some problems and tolerance is required, but the money is good and fatigue is low. Happy landings! :ok:

Savage175 2nd Oct 2018 01:19

MAVEN. AFAIK the 787 is still flying to Rome, and I am unaware of any new routes from Beijing. Routes from Beijing are 'owned' by Air China, so any plan is just that and depends on Air China giving up or agreeing to the route. I have said it a long time before on this Forum. A new RSP basing can take a long time to materialise (and long means years). So unless you are happy to wait in the CAN base for that to happen, think very carefully! I am not aware of any potential PEK basing either.
