Jetairways Experience as Cpt 737 NG / 2

Hello all ,

i forgot. To be prepared to be a PRISONER between your

( ROOM very often without international TV , temporary broken Internet etc. like India is ) and

( CAR dirty stinky non english speaking stupid Drivers , i guess they thinks only 2 meters in front of his car he drives ) and

( COCKPIT dirty , basic Instruments , but still ok ).

Some nice Airline base Dehli with red Tail are the opposite.

HAPPY LANDINGS

> Thanx for all the info. I have a couple of extra questions though. If you don't mind. The 8/2 seems like a very brutal sched.
Yes it is too much , very often soooooooo tired :\

can you just do you 80hrs and then head home?
NO sometimes you have to fly up to 120 Hours in 30 Days but as soon you get overtime there try to give you standby :ugh:

Will they negotiate a 7/3?
I dont think so , why , there are flexible like high-grade steel. :}

> Can you talk to them at all about the terms of the contract or is it take it or leave it?

I dont know right now but i dont think so that you can negotiate anything. :ugh:

> There's about 5 of us here waiting for our security clearances but we'll probably turn it down at 8/2.

Please do yourself a favour and check the open market , also in India. ( Spicejet , Kingfisher , Air India Express they give you a home base in Europe , Buisiness Class Tickets home and more etc
Very important whenever you leave to be aware that you get your NOC = No Objection Certificate before you leave , otherwise you are blooked for 6 Month to work for any other indian Carrier :ok:

Some clarifications....

I do agree with guido , the cockpits are dusty and dirty , but trust me thats on the older 737 that have been around for a few years or are due for a check soon. Kingfisher , well they have new shiny cockpits , but thats only because their planes a spanking new some not more than a month old. If you compare a month old KF A320 with one of our new b737 , I am sure u will find the same amount of dirt and dust on the both of them ( I am unclear of which aircraft guido last few , if he considers the 737 Ng cockpit as basic instruments only ) . The cars can do with work , but thats only with regards to the transports in bombay , the other bases have relatively well kept cars , clean as well , drivers on the other hand I am sure that there is no differenece between the airlines , as neither will have english speaking drivers in good numbers , taking a cue from guido's accentuated english I am sure that most of the english speaking one's will have problems when it comes to understanding him even if he does speak english with the clarity depicted here. Anyway's just my two cents worth .
cheers

How is the turnover rate for Expats? Are most lasting the full 3 years?

Jet Airways/SpiceJet

Guido has brought out some interesting points. In the 18 plus years with the airlines I have never had to "pay" for my proficiency check. Is that standard practice. I assume as a contractor you are now considered a "free agent." If so, what does it cost and where can you get it in India. Does it only apply to EU licenses or FAA/Canadian as well. The costs can add up if you get one twice a year with min 2 hrs sim per PC.

I am hearing a lot of nice things about Spicejet. What bases do they offer, and what are their terms and conditions. i.e. pay, rostering, and housing allowance. Do they also require you to pay for your recurrent.

As fas as English speaking drivers? Come on now--you are in India. Learn some of it to get by! I did a contract in Indonesia and South America years ago--can't expect the poor driver there to speak English. For that matter I was in Germany and the taxi driver refused to speak English.

Housing?

How are the accomidations while working for Jet Airways. I have seen references to both an apartment being offered as well as hotel accomidations. Are they adequate? I heard a few months ago that the accomidations offered had taken a turn for the worse - any truth to this?

Thanks for any information.

JetAirways NG Instruments

Are you saying that the NG's have a different presentation at Jet for the PFD & ND? Here are some other questions?

1. Do they use VNAV ?

2. IAN approaches (also known as non-ILS approaches)

3. Autothrottle's

4.ACARS

5.CAT II/III approaches using Autoland?

You wrote in your post of 18 January 2007, in respect of Jet Airways:

“Sim Checks , Medical on your own consideration and in your block off time of course.”

This implies that the individual pilot is responsible for arranging and paying for his/her six-monthly flight simulator base checks.

Would you please categorically state that this is either the case or is not the case.

Best regards

Jet/Spice

Any expats at Spice-? What are the terms & Conditions being offered? Also the bases, and accomodations allowances. At Jet/Spice is the 80 hrs based on block time (door open to door closed) or is the flight time (T/O to touchdown). Are you given credit for maintenance cancellations and/or weather delays?

Also anyone at Jet/Spice--Have you been able to negotiate anything other than the 8 weeks on/2 weeks off roster? I know AirIndia express is offering 7 days off in 30 days or the 8/2 schedule.

Can anyone please write a bit about the living conditions in India as an expat pilot. Is it a big cultural chock? How is it to fly as FO with local captains? Big cultural differances there as well? Are there any expat captains in jet Airways?

Dmax 28th Jan 2007 00:11

I give to everybody my experience regarding the Jet Airways B737 Classic F/O screening:

In November I received the email by 9W (Jet Airways) saying I was suitable for a B737 Classic FO position. After some days, they sent me the dates to choose from. I went for january's screenings.:E
As they delayed the delivery (by email!!!!) of the Invitation letter to get the Indian VISA at the Indian Embassy in Rome (I'm italian) to few days before Christmas, I needed to go in person to Rome (otherwise I wouldn't managed to do it via post) 2 times (by my own costs) and a total of 6 hours queue, during Christmas holidays.
On 2nd January I left Italy to reach India, Mumbai. I got the assessment (just 40 minutes in the B737-800 sim) and told to proceed to the Head Quarter to speak about result and flight tickets refund, as written in the emails.
Once at the HQ, they told us (me, a Captain and another guy for F/O position) that we passed the assessment, and they showed us the contract details; they told "it will take about 45 days to have all the documentation to let you start flying".
As you can imagine, I was pretty happy, 86's teeth smile on my face.
I come back to Italy after 2 days travelling, tired (jet lag....:ugh: ).
I checked the incoming emails and I fund this email (that other guys received):

-----------------
Dear F/O

This is with reference to your application and subsequent screening.

We would like to inform you that we have following criteria for screening

B737 Screning

A minimum of 100 hours on type as P2
If 500 hours on multi-engine-then line released or total 1000 hours
Type rated on fleet
ICAO ATPL / frozen ATPL / CPL
License should be current with Class 1 medical
English language fluency (written and verbal comprehension)

You have cleared the screening however your selection is subject to fulfilling of above criteria. Request you to complete the minimum no. of hours and approach us.

Best regards,
-------------------

They had obviously my details before invite me for the screening... They had my details in front of them while they were spreading the contract on my face...
Why not tell that before? I've sent 2 emails asking for a clarification....no reply by them.
They aren't also too smart....waste money to pay hotels, flight tickets, simulator hours, local transportation and meals to pilots not having the requirements they ask for.

:yuk: :yuk: :yuk:
At least I'm an optimistic person...and I take that as a quick trip to India with few costs...

Regards
Davide

FlyingCarpet 28th Jan 2007 08:37

Sorry to hear that you need more time on type :(
What was the guys working down there like? Was there a proffesional atmosphere at jet Airways? Will they pay and provade for all checks and tests, safty courses, etc during your contract work?

Dmax 28th Jan 2007 11:33

Yes, the environment was very professional...
The problem is not only the hours on type, but the total hours! I've 350 TT....they didn't have to call me from before! However, as I said, I was an experience, I've done an assessment, and about 1 hour 737 sim free ;)

Let's think positive.....otherwise, it's finished.

Davide
