You wrote in at the correct time when SIA was looking for candidates, which was faster than the normal waiting period to get a psychomotor letter from MAS.

Is it really faster in getting an interview nowadays with SIA? I've been waiting for close to 2 months and I have no news from the HR as yet.

wcj,

That will depend on your application . Of course, being in the youth flying club before, having a PPL etc will show. That's just the application alone. Questions, i believe they do ask questions like " What was your last flight? to where? at what altitude it was flying at?" what make the plane was, what was the distance and all. Your interests also plays a vital role when they ask about you. Do not exaggerate about your interest for flying because they can tell if it's a cock and bull story. As they say, empty vessels make the most noise. Don't show you are too smart about your technical knowledge when you don't have any flight experience at all. As they know it's all learnt and memorised. If there is real interest, you would have done something about the interest when you were younger or such. So it's not easy to try to bull**** your way through.

Another point to note is your interest in the industry... what's happening in SIA and such. A person who is really into flying would know the industry in and out, have opinions and keep up with the lastest in SIA and around the world. But that will be for the tea party talk. That's where they judge your interest also. All these are things which you can't learn overnight. It takes time. Always be prepared in advance.

hi billkill,

I would like to know your answer to the Qs they posed about the recent news about SIA, from what i know,it is only the A380 issue that rattles the operation of SIA a bit, the recent air crashes around the world didn't directly involve SIA.

and bout the increase of Oil price,is it good or bad to SIA?
they charge extra fares since the increase to every passenger, their annual report is still not out,so can I say the oil price increase will directly improve their profit?

cheers

hi there all,
yah it is kinda werid when you get a call from SIA and didn't get a call from MAS. But i think MAS has already got a lot of letters from people like us that to the point they just wanted to finish with those who are already called by them.
but then again mate, if you get SIA interview, do your best !
cheers all !
for those who are waiting for MAS, i think what you need to do is just wait.
good luck all!

wcj,

if you want a diplomatic answer for the interview.... i would say...it would indirectly affect SIA in a sense that with the recent increase in air fares, people who are on a budget would definitely go for other options. But I believe that SIA would not compromise it's excellent service and professionality to cut air fares as it actually already has a niche market of travellers that would travel with SIA. As this is rise is due to oil market forces, other sectors are also affected. This also shows the confidence SIA has and how stable it is....etc etc etc.....bull **** all the way.

in actual fact,
it doesn't really affect. SIA is known to be one of the higher class airlines and more expensive too. For those who fly SIA would fly with SIA. A few dollars won't make any difference. If people were looking for budget travel and with the hike in air prices, they would not even choose to fly SIA in the first place. It has been known SIA isn't competing for the dollar fares with other airlines. It is using it's branding and image to compete instead.

That also relates to the A380 thing that SIA is marketing...to be the first to fly it and making a big hoohaa about it. The layout of the plane has been very secretive within the company too. It's all about the branding and with the delayed delevery, SIA would suffer losses as it would still have to continue marketing it and etc.

It\'s all about the waiting game ain\'t it....sometimes patience pays off. SIA having an intake now.... after this it will be a slow period till next year when the next batch goes off. It happens around the same time every year.
MAS I am not too sure when they have a massive intake. But normally they would not clash with SIA or else they will end up taking SIA rejects.

Hi Billkill,

I can't help but agree with what you have replied to wcj. Real passion cannot be pretended. I was suppose to join the recent 2 Sep batch with SpongeRog and gang but could not as I am still bonded to my present job.

Anyway, I now wait patiently for my time. But have you any ideas how long that will hold on to an application before you are condemn to eternity?

Also, any of you brothers out there get a letter of rejection from SIA before? I know only shortlisted candidates are notified for 1st interview. How about those who "crashed and burned" the 2nd/3rd or medical?

My wait time was two months. Post in application in late April, called in for 1st in mid Jun and 2nd/3rd in late Jun. Medical 3 days after that and final answer/offer in early Aug.

I know the wait is agonising. But like the interviewer said :"If its yours, its yours. If its not, don't force it."

Deepsea,

You have to check with them. It depends on whether they still need pilots at the point of time or if there's an intake. They can't wait for you forever as there are hundreds of new applicants everytime.

Actually,

The first interview, they judge you on your personality and character. See if you really have the interest or not. HP people are very experienced in this so don't bluff your way through. Those that gets rejected here, changes can still be made as everyone changes everyday, be it mindset, goals, and etc. So you still can apply and get a few more chances.

The second call back, it means they have already accepted you for who you are and see that you are deemed fit in personality and character wise to be a pilot. You will have to go through the tests both psychometric and psychomotor. These are aptitude tests. Then it's the group project which tests you on your work communication skills. The final interview will be a grilling, to see if you can handle pressure and your knowledge. The tea party wraps everything up when they test you on your social skills. That's why it's an all-rounded thing. Those who get rejected here means that you do not have the qualities that they need. All these qualities start from young and some are inborn. You can't do much to change it. Therefore, a second chance may be very slim. But yet there are some which fail the second interview and still manage to get accepted after another try. This is due to maybe failing the knowledge test (final interview), tea party (social interaction) or the group project (work communication) by a small margin. Those can be brushed up.

The medical checkup is mainly for CAAS requirement. But SIA do have it's own requirements. For example, if you go for lasik and have 6/6 vision, still doesn't mean that you are deemed fit. They do need to check your degree before the operation and judge from there. If you fail that, means you can forget it.

there are many hurdles to cross. This is an interview, not a marriage. Know when to bull**** and when not to. Even the HR knows that. But they just want to see how you handle yourself in situations with your answers. Someone mentioned that a batch 90% of them are in for the money, and yes that's true, majority are. But my guess is they got through it all because they knew how to handle the interview. Being prepared is important.

Hi Billkill,

Thanks. As "painful" as it is to have to wait, but as I have signed the bond the last time, I will stay committed and served to the last day. That's life right?

Actually I found the interview a self-discovery process. I was grilled very hard on the first round by the CAPT. But what the CAPT pointed out was true in certain sense and started me thinking a little harder about the being a pilot, especially the tough side of the coin. The HR guy was very nice. But at the end of it, I am still determined.

I also found a group of friends during the two days of the second round. Three of them are having a good time in Lumut now. One other is still waiting while we know he cleared his medical. Hopefully, he get to join the Oct batch.

Wish all those who are waiting or all those undergoing training best of luck. Good things never come easy. If it comes easy, its usually not so good.

Hey guys,

I just came back from the 1st interview...

some of the Qs they ask are

what a/c SIA has?

how many of them ?

specifications, engines .

I can answer most of them, but they keep insist that I dun have "LIFE EXPERIENCE",what do they mean by that ??

I am only 22 and still studying, what life experience they expect from me?

anyone went for the interview too?

i dont think by "life experience" they were referring to u being only 22. SIA cadets have been hired as young as 18, and one of them is currently doing his B744 conversion at only 19.
just analyse the interview again, and you may find some more answers. all the best for ur next round
cheers,

Hi fellow wannabes,
I'm going for my 1st interview 15 Sep 9.15am. Sent in my forms 25 Aug and got a reply by 30 Aug. I think SIA is super efficient

Glad that I'm getting a early morning slot the interviewers should be still fresh and in a good mood.

I'm currently 27, graduate from NUS Comp Eng and been working for 2 years in engineering sector. Hopefully this gives me the edge to make it through to the 2nd round.

Suprisingly I find myself more confident of the 2nd round than the first as I should be pretty OK with the various tests that they throw at me, so now need to pray hard they clear my 1st interview!

Hey Guys,

Just a quick question, when the cadetpilot interviews are offered, is there a mixture of malaysians and singaporeans, that will be called for an interview.

Or will they conduct the interviews seperately, say one round of of interviews for Malaysians and another round for Singaporeans.

Any ides guys?

thanks

Hello everyone,

Sent in the application since 12 Jul but no news from SIA. Anyone one out there has gotten a reply having sent out the app during the recruitment ad?

Good luck to all with their interviews!

Cheers

Hi guys

jagr,
good luck to your interview and be prepared for it,the 1st round is to eliminate those without interest in aviation, the HR guy and pilot certainly have their ways to test out applicant's character,so just be HONEST !!

i think everone would prefer 2nd interview(test) isn't it,but that's impossible, even those without interest can perform well in the test, but certainly not in an interview . Nobody can run away from it .Otherwise, those applicant with genius mind but zero interest will get the job, got the whole idea ?

jabba-777

if u read thru this forum, you will know that interview for malaysian will be held at Hotel Nikko while singaporian's will be held at Siganpore respectively. There were interviews at 4th and 5th Sept at Hotel Nikko, but i notice the attendance for the 5th is quite poor.So according to jagr, his interview is on the 15th so i persume it is singaporian's turn on that day.

cheers
