Clearing the interviews

Hi guys,
Stuff that they ask for ur first interview is basic technical qs such as how does the a/c fly?? (hint: talk abt aerofoil and bernoullis theorem...and engine and thrust, you gotta know how the turbofan engine works). They asked me about recent events that were happening with SIA. They asked me to talk abt myself. The 2nd session if u pass the first interview above is a 2 1/2 hr Aptitude test where they test ur Iq, aptitude and psychomotor skills. The 2nd interview is usually on the next day and here u arrive in the morning and u will be asked to do a group project. They are basically looking to see if you can work well in a team and as a leader. My suggestion is to ask everyones opinion before u carry out a task. Last is an interview with a panel and the size of the panel can vary. Here they basically might ask you the same qs they asked in the first interview. So read up abt the Airline and its history..its fleet size....this interview is held to see how confident you are and how u react to a situation. Be cool is my advice.( Another hint is to guys with flyin experience, dont think they might not ask u abt flying. they will ask you abt flying so please read thru ur last airplanes frc..procedures...checks...everything..better to be prepared than not) Lastly we end of with a tea party and eventhough this is an informal event please be vary because the panel are still looking at you watching you and the way u behave. I hope this is of help to u guys who will be going for future interviews. cheers.

ripley bro... i can understand your feeling rite now.. the wait is killing rite? By the way, do you meet the SIA pilot requirement, do you mind sharing yours here?

Yourarm bro... thanks for sharing your experience... you mentioned that there will be a group project during the second interview, my question is what sort of project is it? I heard is something like building an aeroplane out of LEGOs or something like drawing of airport/aircraft? is it true?

teambuilding

well for the group building exercise, yes u will be given lego pieces and asked to construct a design posed to you. Basically i believe that the objective of the whole set up is not to see if you build the most beautiful or most outstanding project but to see your team work and ur delegation of work when asked to become a leader. Remember that when ur working in a cockpit enviroment CRM is very important and having that in mind work well with your teammates. Always ask for others opinions.

yourarm ,

is it true that i say if I answer the questions confidently and is able to admit something that i dunno, then i'll stand a higher chance of passing?

that means they will definitely toss some Qs which will be out of your league and make u to admit u dunno that Qs??

lets say 40 interviewees...
how many will usually get thru the 1st round ? then how many will eventually be selected as cadet ?? roughly?

Heard there is a shortage of pilot everywhere , is that including SIA?

cheers

guys.. this is wat i know.

"first interviews" are normally held over 2 days. 40 applicants will be interviewed per day. total 80 applicants.

out of the 80, 10 will be selected to move on to the 2nd and 3rd round. 2nd and 3rd interview can be considered as one interview held over two days.

out of 2nd and 3rd, it all depends on the calibre of the applicants. i.e. no quota. for my batch, 8/10 got thru. couple of batches before mine, all passed. there were also cases where only half got thru.

hope that helps.

hi WhiteOak,

wat u mean by "waiting for SIA rejection like me"?
-Do you mean to say that you are still waiting to hear from SIA for the final decision? or
you already known the final results from SIA and its negative?

My batchmates went for our medic in early-Aug. Although we cleared the medic, we are still waiting for the final decision from SIA.

I wish to know if all the applicants are passionate and how many of them know exactly what will be thrown at them during interview? roughly how many % is those with try-try or know-nothing attitude % ? Just to know from your perspective ...

thanks

Hi hi..

Not trying to be rude but why bother about other applicants' mentality?

I personally think that it should be all about YOU. Are you trying your luck? And its something only which the interviewers and you should know.

=)

hi winglet_fever

I am always a friendly guy, that's what my friend said of me
That means rudeness is out of my mind....

Is that true that if all the applicants are equally good at 1st round, all of them will be called back to the 2nd?

May I ask when did u go for the interview ? Is there a shortage of pilot in SIA now?

I am not trying my luck,I have the passion to fly,not just with SIA,probably with just any airlines who wish to take me and I had been preparing for it for months now.Certainly I not those with high-salary-try-try attitude.

Wish I can go thru.

Actually there's no fixed number. It all depends on the batch intake and how many people are qualified for it.

One batch intake may contain people from various interviewing batches. Some have more qualified ones and some don't. So there's no fixed number to it actually because it would be unfair to assess that way.

For example,
A group of 80, if only 10 are chosen and there are actually maybe 20 qualified candidates. 10 qualified ones would be kicked out. The second interviewing batch of 80, maybe only 3 are really qualified. They can't possibly pick 7 unqualified ones to fill the numbers. it would do the company injustice and unfair to those from the first batch that were actually qualified but kicked out.

Therefore, all are taken into consideration. That's why some people receive later replies than others.

Just be yourself, try your best and hope for the best.
By the way, I am sure you all have the passion to fly. But don't just say it. Show it. There are lots of applicants that claim they have the passion but they have nothing to show. Knowledge can be built up easily through reading. But passion doesn't happen overnight. Just a point for you guys to take note of.

Thumbs up

Hi billkill,

I think you are quite right to say that facts can be read up overnight and most of the applicants have passion.

But i guess everyone heading for the interview will say that they have passion,so how can the interviewer tell which is passion and which is 'try-try' attitude, do they have any specific Qs to test applicant's character?

thanks a lot

Can someone plz explain this to me ...

I sent out my application to SIA and MAS simultaneously, but now I've got SIA's interview, not MAS, why?

Mas requirement is lower than SIA's

Could it be that SIA are more efficient than MAS? Ask yourself.
