del_kat,
send your application in anyway. It's a long shot, but they may overlook your english result. more so if you have higher (and better) qualifications post o levels. I personally know a cadet who also doesn't fulfill the o level prerequisites. However, i do not know anyone else that lucky. Like i said, a long shot.

Good afternoon gentlemen,
I am wondering, which degrees do SIA recognise for the cadetship? Would a 1 year degree from Australia or a 3 year distance learning degree be considered on the same degree payscale during cadetship?
Why i am asking this is because i am taking a distance learning degree atm and if the degree wont be considered in the same payscale, i might as well apply for the cadetship now, with my diploma. I am not sure who to contact at SIA. Anyone have the number or email address?
In my line (IT industry), without the necessary experience, a degree or diploma does not make a big difference thus my taking my degree course part time through distance learning. (note: this does not apply to all IT jobs, esp management related.) .. I am 24 yrs old this year.
My point is, if i were to get through and for some reason grounded (oh god no). I will go back job searching using mainly my diploma and cont studying part time.
I post this message whilst in a clear and mood. If anything seems otherwise, i will clearify. Thank you for reading!

hi rykin, do u reach the O level stand set by them. DO u have a credit for PURE physic, remember not combine sci.
If u have then i will suggest u to get a Deg as i really dun have friend who are SIA pilot which only a DIP.
Remember an old saying "If they have so much of ppl with DEG to chose with, what make u think that they will take u when u only have a DIP"
my 1 cents view

Questions on applying for Cadet Programme in SIA
Hi everybody,
This is a very informative forum. I've been reading it for past few months. Currently an undergrad in NUS, would like to apply as SIA Cadet once graduate. However I ahve 2 problems hope to get some answer from you guys.
I've torn my knee ligament before and operated on it. I've since recovered and able to participate in any sport as normal people. However, SAF downgraded me to Pes C2L2 permanently, so will it mean that i wont be able to pass the medical?
Another problem is that i am not able to swim. I have this phobia of water so i don't think i will be able to learn it. Will it deter my chance to become a pilot?
Thanks for answering my queires.

I really do not think that what you describe in terms of your ailment would have even the slightest bearing on you passing the SIA medical. If you can walk, run, kick a ball you will be alright. Don't forget the medical has nothing to do with SIA but with CAAS.
Your water phobia - should you get in you will have to surmount that problem then - in terms of the SEP training wet drill. It should not present any problems in the interview process, and obviously you would not mention it in any interviews!!
Good luck -

The Wet Drill
You strip down to your jocks and then put on a white boiler suit, on top of that you put a life jacket which you inflate.
When told to do so you jump in the deeper end, easy, hold your nose between your fingers and you will come to the surface very quickly, swim to the other end, on your back or on your front, it doesn't matter, you can't sink!!!
You will probably be asked to swim a full length, (with a fully supporting life jacket), dragging a mate by the neck of his life jacket, then he will drag you back to the other end the same way, no drama, no head under water.
After that, still wearing your life jacket, you will jump back into the water, (you can even sit on the side and slide in!), and then swim to a life raft where you can demonstrate your ability to help others in before climbing in yourself.
I had a phobia about head under water myself, tell the instructors and they will watch you but it is very satisfying to complete the whole, (very easy and safe), procedure without any help and it can be done, in fact it happens every day down at the SIA Training Centre, treat it like a day at the beach!

From what i know, SIA/CAAS do consider Army pes status... that's the key to the first gate...
in the SIA website, it stated that applicants must be medically fit. So how will they determine who is fit and who is not..? that's rite... by your army pes status.. they won't bother taking a gamble of leting you pass all the interviews and only to find out you are unfit.
but don't give up.. give it a try... no harm trying...
Tinybrain...
thanks for your advice... i do know age is important however i personally know someone who is selected as a cadet pilot at the age of 30...
and one more factor that halted me from applying now is i just underwent lasik surgery (yes, for the sake of being a pilot) and thanks for this forum, i know that SIA will only recruit those cadets who underwent lasik one year after their surgery... so i have no choice but to apply it only when i am 28...
By the way, any brudders here know how important is army ranking to SIA/CAAS? or it doesn\'t make a difference whether you are a coporal or officer?
For those brudders who are worried about their o\'level result or having only a diploma to show... not to worry.. i got a friend who failed his english (D7) and doing combine science with only a diploma are now flying A340...
there are no specific key to the door... so just keep trying and don\'t give up...

I Hate The Wet Drill
Oh Boy! Everytime i get to that door i freeze! I hate it....then the jump of fright and sheer agony.....then once in the water i act as if I'm a pro swimmer..."No sweat", i tell the Cabin Crew.
I Hate it...any ideas on how to get out of it?
Lets see 24 years to retirement devided by two = 12 more jumps!!
Would be great if I could just do 12 at one go and never again.

Second shot after failing?
Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anybody has heard of a cadet pilot candidate who has failed the final interview/medical, but was still given another shot at the interview process eventually....or if, for a fact that there's no way that you'll ever be considered ever again.
I've heard from someone that one candidate was given an interview after failing the final interview (not medical though) a year later. This was also after he had completed an MBA.
I'd just like to reconfirm this. Thanks guys, in advance.

I went through the first interview three times and still did not clear it.
While I do believe that I am as good as anyone else, the whole experience has left me feeling demoralised and I do realise that there must not be any other candidates who have undergone the first interview as many times as me.
I am starting to feel that a career as a Pilot may not be possible for me, in view of the repeated rejections.

Hey, Echo, don't give up yet!
I believe that you do feel a passion for flying, else you would not hv come so far. I think I hv heard of candidates who hv gone thru more interviews than you. And they never gave up.
Did you analyse your interviews to see why you did not clear them? So that you can cover those areas in your next interviews
Gambate!
Does anyone know the difference between an SQ, Cargo & Silkair pilot? Not a trick question just wanted to know

difference
Hi Jessie,
difference between the 3 carriers is the allowance, days
away from home and responsibility. Do you know of anyone who has been to the final interview but fail to make it to the medical and yet get called up again for the first interview?

Hmmm. I had heard that the SilkAir pilot achieves his captainship earlier because he gets to clock more sectors, and he gets to come home every night. THe cargo pilot flies to more exotic locations than everyone else, but his allowance is supposedly the lowest (plus no stewardess SQ is best for the young guns who will get to visit places like LA, Frankfurt, etc.
Any comments?

Hi Hi,
Leader, I heard that you will only get to go thru the final interview and medical only once. Then again, does SIA actually keep records of those who didn't pass? No harm trying, I'd say. However, I must add that if you didn't pass the medical the first time, it's unlikely you'd pass it the second time (unlike the interview).
Predator, I tot so too, haha! Until I was offered a place in Cargo! Once you're in, you'll be in for 7 years. It's a life-changing decision.
Another question from the curious me: what sort of holidays do cadet pilots get in Jandarkot? Australian or Singaporean hols? Can we get to dive in Australia (my hobby)?
Thanks! And once again good luck to everyone!

Thanks Jessie Blue for your encouragement.. I wish u the best in your pursuit as well..
What this thread needs are real experiences by current batch of cadet pilots.. i really hope to hear about their day to day life in flight school etc.. what goes on .. how is a typical day like.. do cadets get to go out at night and over the weekends? How regimental and the pet peeves ..
Hope this might get a few of the existing cadets to speak up..
Oh btw, would anyone in the upcoming batches be trained for the A380?
