Danger too late SM LEE????

Kindergarten rhetoric of such laughable proportions ive never heard before !!!!
from supposed highly educated, highly positioned govt members anywhere before!!!!!!.
its just ridiculously embarassing for singaporeans to have to comprehend that their leaders resort to such childish analagies...broken bones...cracked heads...
i will sort this out....playground antics for 5 year olds !!!!!
SIA management have degraded a 'profession' for decades with the above mentioned mentality and there is always a Re-action for every Action made or taken.
a whole generation of local pilots who made themselves independantly wealthy and who were therefore cushioned to a great extent from constant demoralisation are nearing retirement.some of them cant believe they devoted 20+ yrs of their lives to be given no respect or thanks and have walked up the road to taipei where at least they get 10 consecutive days off per mnth+ annual leave etc etc.
the younger generation are more highly educated, not just academically, but worldly, through exposure to the outside world and their place in it. the population are maturing and more independantly minded and politically aware. they must be cringeing with disdain at the assumption of SIA and govt that they will just bend over for the latest playground beating and then be expected to respect the 'bully' thereafter. you look nothing but foolish.
irreparable damage has been done in SIA. damage that wont be repaired with a few kind words and a few dollars more.
a professional body without whom the company cannot function is showing outstanding professionalism and continuing to uphold the highest possible safety and standards. however
if you dont pay the going rate SIA, you wont get the standard of professional on which your business is wholly dependant.
if working conditions are diabolical, same applies.
pilots can see for themselves there are better jobs elsewhere and they will go.
i and many like me have been fully employed in asian companies throughout the worst conditions in aviation history.
we were not sacked , neither were we forced to take paycuts.
be not afraid to leave SIA...the worst is long gone and there are good companies taking pilots on long term futures.

You are spot on Mk1eyeball, as always, along with Insider7, millerscourt et al.
However there is one aspect that has not come out on these forums yet and that is the fact that SM Lee has a very deep and personal dislike towards pilots in general stretching back to 1984. They are not 'graduates', a major problem for him. Unfortunately they fit in somewhere between bus drivers and taxi drivers in his mind and hence the same attitude towards plane drivers from the mini general who takes his lead from the big Boss in this. It also explaines the banter about 'cracking of heads' , 'arrogant pilots',etc.
On a slightly different subject a few years back while the SM was flying on a long haul trip, he asked if he could have the pilots bunk as was usual and it was refused. All hell broke loose on his return and that became yet another reason to despise the pilots and add nails to the personal vendetta.
No amount of intrevention on his part will solve this on going problem until he takes his personal likes and dislikes out of the crisis and he allows market forces along with his perfectly capable new CEO to get on with it.
This being the same new CEO whom most pilots have a great deal of respect for and look forward to being led by.

Looks like plenty of chickens here. With a warning from SM, there are talks that ALPAS will take anything from the management without a fight.Cant blame them, almost all will tow the line. When you put a frog in a pot and start boiling it,the frog will continue to live in it....until too late ..it gets cook.

Yes, I agree with you. I remember reading it in The Straits Times way back in the 1980s when he was PM then and threathening the pilots about closing down SIA and starting a new airline and re-employing the ones who kow tow (bow down) to his majesty.

He made a remark that the pilots were only 'O' levels and many owned flats at Marine Vista.

Shows that he looks down on pilot's academic qualifications.

Yes, I agree with you. The silly SM is behaving worse than a 5-year old. No wonder, why many people are calling him "senile".
I can't imagine a Queen's Scholar, who holds a Law double-first from Cambridge Univerisity behaving like this! What a waste of taxpayers money to send him to Cambridge. Should have sent to Hell, for all I care.

I think it is all much simpler than we first thought. The fact that the SIA pilots saga hits the local papers every day and most of the days as front page news is just the proof that the "leaders" are very very worried. They know something is cooking in their own kitchen, and they also know that they can't take it of the boil. The "wind beneath my wings" is getting louder and louder. The locals are finally fed up and are ready to fight. They fight with their feet and just leave.

Agreed JB
The sense of concern on the 4th floor is rapidly increasing beyond furrowed brows and wider eyes. It is jogging along nicely towards panic because the only solution is to pay up or not have the pilots to service the routes. Market forces have a way of over powering any potential loss of face and I predict that we have heard the last of the angry outbursts in the newspapers. The nonsence about trying to function with a few hundred pilots less is not possible or believed by those that have to staff the airline. The more bullets fired at the pilots in the news paper the more pilots decide it just isnt worth it and the faster this turns into a major crisis. Funny how the pilots are being blamed for trying to wreck the airline when it is all too obvious, even to the travelling public, that the wreckers are infact the noisy Ministers. Nobody gains by these adverse reports and threatening outbursts in the Straits Times, least of all SIA. The bottom line is that the 'ladies from the bridge club'who understand little about SIA's problems, would far rather be sitting in the back with a happy pilot up front than an angry one and this has to translate into lost customers and less profit. That is why the childish, vaguely understandable outbursts in the paper have to stop.
I think the SM's tame reporter, Rebecca 'Lemming', will be forced to stop fibbing to the public and things will begin to settle down from now in. If Im wrong, well all that stuff about going to the brink is just around the corner. None of the pilots are intimidated by illogical ministers any longer and most are resigned to leaving if they have to or staying if it all works out soon.

A couple of months ago some of friends of mine that are FOs on the 744 at CI were spending quite a bit of time in the sim supporting Captain candidates that were there on interview. Almost all were from SQ both 744 and 777.

The word is CI needs well over 100 pilots. That isn't news but I think they are quite happy to poach from the neighbours...

Cool

6 feetunder

there is no 'poaching' of crews from SIA by anyone.
they are all leaving as they are no longer constrained by any outstanding contracts.
at last the term 'free market economy' has become a reality for these guys and they are choosing better terms and conditions elsewhere.
hats off to them and welcome to a world where singaporeans will be known as 'expats' in the pilot world. quite a turnaround hey.
the govt has always preached to its citizens to adventure overseas etc etc and now another group are doing so.
bravo and long may they prosper not just monetarily but in character too.

a point to note

yes, we have to be clear about this.

there is no poaching. these guys are without constraints. senior guys. three of whom i hear were ex-management.

but i marvel at the theatrics being staged at singapore. only person notably missing from this circus -act is the prime minister.

Never late

The big guy was never late...

He was never there.

So he won't miss SQ once it has faded..

Maybe TIGER can give him a boost...

But for once in his life time, he has no control over

everything he thought he has.

At least he has vision to blurr other visions.

Leading to Myopic Singapore Inc.
