flight grading

hi people,

as quite a few of you were interested, i'll just post it here. Hope thats alright with you guys. Anyways, here it is:

Dragonair Advanced Flight Grading: Diamond Twinstar DA42-L360

Flight 1: General handling
- straight and level
- Climbing and descending
- Turns:- medium, Steep
- Climbing and descending turns
- Stalls:- Full clean stall, incipient stall in landing config
- Unusual attitudes

Fight 2: Circuits
- normal
- flapless
- short field
- engine failure after takeoff
- engine failure on downwind
- asymmetric go-around
- asymmetric landing

Flight 3: Instrument Flying
- same as Flight 1 but under the hood

Flight 4: VFR nav
- around five legs including one diversion. Google map helps a lot, just look up what the places look like beforehand.
- You are given a flight plan and a map with the legs drawn on for you. All the winds , distances, tracks, hdgs and times are given as well.
- You don't need to do any planning but make sure you know how to do diversions.

Flight 5: IFR nav + VOR approach
- Similar to the VFR nav, no diversions though.
- Again, all the planning is done for you.
- So all you hv to do is fly what the flight plan says
- making sure you do all the procedures (climb checks, cruise checks, pre-descent checks etc)

Flight 6: ILS approach
- After take-off, you're radar vectored to intercept an ILS thats close by

Flight 7: Combo flight
- the last flight goes through everything you've done from flight 1-6.

good luck everyone!

thanks rookie P.

Very detailed and I think it is beyond what Normal CCP would be tasked. Thanks nonetheless!

n.dave 23rd Jan 2011 14:33

WOW, Looks like a CPL test to me and a bit of I/R.
May I ask for the diversion, is Vortrack allow?

Rookie p 25th Jan 2011 07:11

Yeah it was pretty hectic, especially when you haven't flown a twin for 6 months. But thats all done and dusted now, on to JTS

Vortrack is not allowed im afraid. With the G1000, you have the ND to your right which shows your track and ground speed. So as long as you keep on your tracks (adjusting hdg for wind), you'll be fine :)

Forgot to mention that you have to do an unmanned joining procedure at an airfield on the VFR nav. They call it a CTAF over here. You should get all the info you need for that and more from the Australian CASA website

quick question-

what are the chances of the HKID restrictions being lifted to make the dragonair cadetship on par with the cathay?

ORBIS 516 1st Feb 2011 09:13

Anyone of you done the ICAO assessment test? And fail?

ReverseFlight 2nd Feb 2011 00:44

ICAO assessment test? And fail?
I have heard of such cases. You are directed towards specific training (at your own cost) referred by your assessor and you will be retrained again and again until you pass it.

pre-qualified cadets recruitment

hi everyone, i'm a fresh grad pilot with 200hours from malaysia. Any advise for me in order to get a job? i'm aware of Dragonair is hiring pre-qualified cadets but with requirement of HK citizen.

Anything that i can do with it?

ReverseFlight 22nd Feb 2011 09:50

drewteh, you must have HK residency rights for the KA scheme.

Do you have Malaysia residency rights ? If so, you'd be better off applying for airlines in Malaysia as they don't employ those without.

Postscript to my last post: Pilots have been known to FAIL the ICAO test.

drewteh 22nd Feb 2011 10:19

reverseflight,

thanks for your information
yea, i tried to apply local airlines and am waiting for the news.
just would like to try my luck for oversea airlines. =]

Interviews?

Hey all,

Has anyone here been interviewed lately, or is still in the process of progressing through the interview processes? If there are any tips, especially for pre-qualified cadets preparation, I'd highly appreciate it.

Thanks a lot in advance =)

Pic Pic U/s Spic P U/t

Hello all,

I am going through the papers KA sent me and filling out the “flying experience” form.

What is the difference between:

PIC (Pilot in command)
PIC U/S (Pilot in command under supervision)
SPIC (Student Pilot in command)
P U/T (Pilot under training)

I have been trying to look up for their definitions from the HK CAD website but unsuccessful.

Million Thanks,
CharlieLS

n.dave 6th Mar 2011 18:01

CharlieLS,

PIC is mainly you fly the aircraft by yourself such as solo flying.

PIC U/S is when you fly the aircraft under your command but with supervision of an examiner such as taking a flight test.

SPIC is only applicable if you did your training on an integrated route. Howeve though, HKCAD only recognise Adelaide flt school! If you did it else where then it will be count as P1 U/T

P U/T is where you receive instructions from your instructor when you learn to fly i.e Dual flt.

You can also check it out on HKCAD website!
Hope it helps.

Recency

Thanks n.dave for your help!

Does anyone know do they take "Recency" into account while they evaluate a candidate's flying experience?

I haven't flown nor shoot an ILS approach for years. Anyone has the similar situation?

Thanks.

Dragonair Career Path

Hi All:

I just have a couple of queries which I hope someone can answer:
a) I read somewhere that the flight assessment is about 6 weeks, does that include the indoctrination stage if accepted?
b) I assume that those offered a job after will serve as SO's on KA. Anyone know which fleet the SO's will fly and how long is the upgrade to JFO at KA?

Many Thanks.

AngelW 29th Mar 2011 16:02

I just got an interview invitation (PQCPP) from KA to be conducted in HK, but I am in US now. Do you guys know if KA has or will start conducting interviews overseas?
