ReverseFlight 16th Jul 2010 16:03

Zanski, heard the news from one of my mates.

Alexander87 23rd Jul 2010 10:47

Isn't Dragonair CPP only for HK citizens?
Dragonair - Careers : Flight Crew Position____

the requirements on this link show this way..

Zanski 27th Jul 2010 03:53

yep thats right hk citizens only

K3nnyboy 27th Jul 2010 04:33

I have a feeling sooner or later it's gonna change just like Cathay~~:}

holdmetight 27th Jul 2010 04:52

Obviously nothing is impossible, but I don't think KA will need to look outside HKG for cadet pilots. The company currently don't need as many pilots as Cathay, nor do they have as many incoming aircraft or route expansions either. I also don't think the company itself has the resources to conduct interviews for expatriate applicants. Unless there is a major exodus of pilots from Dragonair, it is hard to see them resorting to recruiting expatriates for their CPP.

That being said though, a turn in the rumour mill is indicating cadet pilot intake will increase next year.

Crazyworld 27th Jul 2010 13:45

i am doubting why Cathay need so many pilots?

AsL402 27th Jul 2010 18:14

Hopefully it doesn't open up internationally too soon...no offense to those people who want it to. Looking to go for KA if i don't get though CX again my next try :)

takamasa 1st Aug 2010 17:27

for those who has completed the assessment .

could you briefly tell us what it consists of??

thanks guys.

ReverseFlight 3rd Aug 2010 16:35

Your info is incorrect. It's happening right now.

AsL402 3rd Aug 2010 16:53

ReverseFlight,

Where do you see that they are accepting Expatriate Cadet Pilots? Their website still states that applicants need to have a permanent HKID.

holdmetight 4th Aug 2010 02:18

ReverseFlight

I meant KA won't need to open their cadetship to people without a permanent HKID.

ReverseFlight 6th Aug 2010 16:24

they are accepting Expatriate Cadet Pilots?
Before you fall off your chair, I didn't say they are accepting, just conducting interviews. Read the thread carefully.

BTW, what's a Class 1 medical "without restriction" ? Is the need to wear glasses a restriction ?

Thanks for your contribution to this thread.

Are you saying they are conducting interviews with expatriates? On the application, they ask to provide a HKID number before continuing...

ReverseFlight,

I meant "accepting" as accepting applications and not accepting to the program.

takamasa 6th Aug 2010 22:41

i submitted the application last week.

i still heard nothing else from them

i am quite anxious.

anyone is in the same situation as i do?

RookieRookie 7th Aug 2010 03:18

I'll not be surprised if the KA cadet program opens up to international applicants. As some of you probably knows, CX is hiring international cadets now. The sole intention of that is to reduce housing allowance by replacing the DESO scheme with the cadet scheme. KA, being a subsidary of CX, will probably do the same in the near future. CX is trying to integrate the whole operation with KA now. All the sim trainings for KA are now being done in CX city. If KA cannot hire enough cadets locally, they will definitely accept international applicants.

kyandy 9th Aug 2010 15:42

I don't deny the fact that KA will open international, but i would say the fact won't be housing allowance. KA don't offer that have much housing allowanace compare to CX.

mchou83 11th Aug 2010 14:47

from KA's page It required the applicants pass all ATPL ground examinations. Just wondering for those who just got their CPL/multi-engine instrument rating around 200+hours. How do you go write the ATPL exam? Isn't it need at least half 1500 hours to write the ground examinations?

Zanski 11th Aug 2010 14:54

the CASA and JAA licenses allow you to take the theory examinations and your ATPL remains frozen until you've got 1500hrs

ReverseFlight 14th Aug 2010 23:45

the CASA and JAA licenses allow you to take the theory examinations and your ATPL remains frozen until you've got 1500hrs
Or more precisely, CASA is frozen until 1500 hrs but under FAA you only get a theory exam credit as you still need a checkride after 1500 hrs to obtain your FAA ATPL. In practice however it doesn't make any difference for KA.

takamasa 17th Aug 2010 20:48

form of invitation

hey everyone

just wondering how did ka contact you if you are invited for the interviews?

phone calls ,emails?

thanks for the heads up

ReverseFlight 28th Aug 2010 02:24

takamasa sir, I've noticed for some time that you are a regular and helpful contributor. :ok:

The answer is - "email".

Cheers.

takamasa 30th Aug 2010 02:43

ReverseFlight

thanks, brother.

i am wondering when they will start informing candidates, especially overseas.

i am from oversea, really anxious to know if i will be considered.

thanks for your heads up:)

K3nnyboy 30th Aug 2010 09:49

anyone know if they are willing to take upon an CPL holder without frozen ATPL??

polair911 30th Aug 2010 12:43

Hi All,

Does anyone know when they actually started hiring for this position?? I'd applied for the Cadet Pilot Program earlier this year, but didn't hear anything in return.

However, when I clicked "APPLY" on the Pre-qualified Cadet Program page, after I enter all my details, I've got this:

"We are unable to accept an additional application as your current application is being processed."

kind of confuing but, it seems like they are still processing my last application??

polair911

hey,how are you?

are you an oversea applicant as well?

Also did you update them saying you meet the mini. requirement for the PQCPP?

cheers man

polair911 31st Aug 2010 01:58

Hey Takamasa,

Yea, I am an oversea applicant, but as I was saying I was originally going for the normal cadet programe until the Pre-qualified one came out. Haven't heard anything from them, and yet couldn't apply for the PQCPP because they're still processing my previous application. Might just give them a call when I get to HK, as im going back for the GFS eye test anyway.

Thanks dude~~:ok:

cheers~

i am wondering when they will start informing candidates, especially overseas.
KA has been conducting interviews and sim checks for overseas candidates under pre-qualified scheme already. BTW, you may have a problem with this scheme if you hold Canadian CPL but not Canadian ATPL exam credits due <750 hrs, even if sufficient hours for HKCAD.

I was originally going for the normal cadet programe
Depends. If you have 250 hrs, ATPL exams and fulful other requirements of CAD54, then you may be considered for pre-qualified scheme. If not, then you're back on the original cadet scheme. I think the computer server might have recognised your name and put you on hold. By all means contact HR when you're back in town.

takamasa 31st Aug 2010 04:09

ReverseFlight

hey,

thanks for your instant.

they started already?that might be a big concern for me.Coz i originally applied for the traditional one. Later i updated my resume with my renewed IFR and ATPL written done. I dun know if they will automatically move me to the PQCPP pile , i hope they do of course.
i still dun have any news from them

for the hours you are mentioned, i have about 900 hrs tt. i hope it should be good enough to impress them, at least experience wise.:)

Uncle Wiggily 31st Aug 2010 10:51

Word is that there will be a pre-cadet program to decide if you can make it to the cadet program. The pre-cadet program will identify certain characteristics in you that will decide your applicability. The pre-cadet program is rumored to begin in Jan.2011 and will cost appx. $499.00 for the pre-cadet screening.

polair911 31st Aug 2010 12:27

are u serious Uncle W.?? Cos it sure sounds like one of those program that focus more on $$ than the right candidate......hmm similar to what I read on this forum regarding to CX's English tutoring class???

If so, that's a big worry where the aviation industry is heading......:(

Dragonair Pre-Qualified Cadets

hey guys just some updates on the interview process-

1. General Interview (2 recruitment personnel) 35-45 mins
Self introduction, company info, fleet details, questions on your resume and experience

2. ICAO english test

3. Technical Interview (2 Training Captains and someone from recruitment) 45 mins
Typhoons, thunderstorms, jet engines, constant speed propellers, IFR charts, fleet info, weather in hk, a330, a320, situation questions i.e how do u handle stress, terrain in hk, MDA/DH, visual circling, pneumatics, hydraulics, braking, aircraft you've flown on, fly by wire (thats all i remember but basically everything under the moon so ur better off studying everything- Ace the Technical pilot interview was pretty useful)

4. Sim Check (2 Captains and someone from recruitment) 30 mins
In the A330, but i think it depends on sim availability could be in the 320. General handling and ILS approaches, no auto throttle. Happens on the same day as the tech interview with casual drinks at the bar at the end of the day.

5. CAD class one medical

6. Flight grading
1 sim and 7 flights in the DA42

upon passing flight grading you stay on for 4 more weeks in FTA for JTS in the 737 sim.

hope this helps!

good luck to all applicants
