Oct 22nd Lumut Batch

They are tentatively about 5 -6 guys interested in meeting up on monday. We will be meeting around 1930H in Town.

Anyone else interested pls PM me ur contact and I will furnish the details to you.

Cheers.

Sg_navigator: See you on the 21st. Btw, are you the person with the same nick on SBF ?

Soaring Ahead 10th Oct 2010 08:38

@Michael : Mate, i think if you were to list your Hongkong address you might just get filtered out. If you have a Sg address, it should probably go thru. As I applied from Australia and initially listed my Australia Address, my application was promptly rejected however when i listed my Singapore address, everything went thru smoothly. So if you have a local address, have a go at it. All the best.

All the best to batch 158!

If anyone is headed for batch 159, keep us posted.

Currently pending medical result!

Happy Landings

sg_naviator 10th Oct 2010 14:22

nineh 10th Oct 2010 19:15

Navigator: No worries. Jus checking. Cos there's another person on the Songapore Bike Forum that has a similar nick to yours. :) yup, don't worry, if there is good, useful info, it will definitey be shared.

Catch you soon.

Cheers

Is SIA strict about Minimum height

Hi,

I'm really interested in joining SIA in the future. I feel I definitely have what it takes to be a pilot. I've looked at the minimum requirements and I meet everything except the minimum height of 1.65m.

Is SIA strict regarding this? From what I hear, most airlines put a minimum height but they are not strict about it. As long as your limbs are able to reach whatever is needed it should not be a problem?

I am 1.63m so I only fall short of 2cm. I've also seen several pilots that are shorter than me. I'm Singaporean, uni grad, eyesight only 150 degrees so everything else seems to be ok. Is SIA strict regarding being short of just 2cm?

Right now I'm trying to be a fighter pilot with RSAF. I passed COMPASS and the interview and medical. Waiting to enlist. Does this boost my chances of joining SIA in the future? Will the further I get with fighter pilot training boost my chances with SIA in the future?

Oh and from what I hear, the minimum age of 26 does not apply to RSAF rejects. If I get rejected by RSAF somewhere down the training, I'll apply to SIA immediately. Does this affect my application in any way?

Thanks

Soaring Ahead 11th Oct 2010 03:42

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how long do they take to clear the medical?
And if anyone has been told to go for the medical (friday) and received a rejection email on the immediate monday? This is my case currently.

Does that mean I have failed due to the medical?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

drareg 11th Oct 2010 04:19

@ supersonicgazoom: If you manage to get into RSAF with your current height of 1.63m and clear their requirements. I don't see why you can't enter SIA in the future! All the best in the RSAF. It'll definately look good on your resume to have been a pilot with the RSAF before joining SIA. But that doesn't mean SIA would want to recurit you with that experience. You'll still have to do well for the interviews. :ok:

Work hard and don't think of dropping out/getting rejected from RSAF training so that you can enter SIA before 26. Instead work hard and complete your bond with the RSAF then start thinking about joining commercial.

There are no guarantees that if you do get rejected from RSAF half way thru, SIA will take you in before 26. I believe it's a rumour. PM me if you require more info.

@ Soaring Ahead: Sorry to read about your situation. Let me share with you what I know. Medical at ST Aeromedical should take around 1 week to clear. Then we can call them to check on your medical status.

It's surprising that you recieve a rejection email when you only went for medical last Friday. I don't think it has got to do with your medical that you failed. But I could be wrong. Maybe those guys at ST Aeromedical were working hard over the weekends?! :ugh:but medical results don't come back so fast.

I'm not going to speculate why you failed to clear even though you got selected to go to medical. Maybe you can give ST Aeromedical a call. That might help satisfy your query. Let me know if you need more info.

uranium 11th Oct 2010 15:35

hi guys

I have just applied for the cadet pilot position but to my dismay it got rejected today just after 2 days. I am very keen to pursue a flying career and this early rejection is really hitting me hard. I meet all the minimum requirements as stated on the SIA website. I am 23 years of age though, still studying in university.

Would really be grateful if someone can pass me the SIA HR department contact number for me to follow up?

Thanks so much in advance.

jungle-mania 11th Oct 2010 18:19

@ Soaring Ahead. I did the same thing with my address and had the same result, how long before you can reapply? I am based in Singapore and Australia too.

drareg 12th Oct 2010 02:16

I am 23 years of age though, still studying in university.
@ uranium: Still too young to get accepted by SIA. Min age 25 years old before they start processing your application. Complete your studies first and apply again 6 months before you graduate. :ok:

Soaring Ahead 12th Oct 2010 02:58

@Jungle-Mania - I made the resubmissions in the space of 2 weeks. And for the 2nd application with the revised address, they replied within 4 days. And things have been flowing since then.

Edward did mention of a computer glitch yesterday in which they sent out wrong emails including my "rejection" email which he advised to ignore eventually! Thankfully!!;) One of the roller-coasters along the way!

Hope this help. PM me if you need more info.

Cheers mate!

PS: where about australia are you?

Will having asthma affect joining sia or rsaf?

jungle-mania 13th Oct 2010 14:50

@Soaring Ahead, I am in Perth. Shuttle back to Singapore pretty regular, might as well make a career out of it.:p

drareg 14th Oct 2010 08:06

Will having asthma affect joining sia or rsaf?
Hmm I'm guessing if you haven't had an attack in a long while, and the DAME finds you fit to fly. The it shouldn't be a problem..

Maybe somebody with a past history of asthma can help. :)

Soaring Ahead 14th Oct 2010 23:56

@Jungle-Mania : Nice! All the best with your application!

sixteensept10 18th Oct 2010 03:13

hey guys,
any news of the next intake in nov from anyone?

flunx 18th Oct 2010 06:41

i'm purely guessing, but don't think there's going to be a nov intake?

going by the 6 week per intake logic, the next one is probably going to be on 3 dec, just right to end on 23 dec before christmas (purely guessing!).
