Hey!

Guys, can I have the original mail please? Please PM me, if you can. We'll get this sorted out, if people who got the mail help out. Need just one original copy. Need to authenticate.

That's exactly my point nz. Where does it end? First you get your commercial ticket, then the multi, then the TR, then pay for this farce which to me is total abuse of aspirants.
These guys tried to start a new program where you paid 2x the cost for the TR and then have the pilots 'pay' for their first 500 hrs on type. The shady deal got shelved because too many people wanted a piece of the action.
They are denigrating the term 'professional pilots' and we are jumping over each other to perpetuate the system.
While I realize that things are tough, there will be options, if not now, some time in the future. I worked more than a dozen jobs for over 10 years between my commercial and my first flying job, so I know what it's like to play the waiting game.
But to have them brazenly take advantage of an obviously desperate situation is deplorable. No airline, I repeat, no airline in India has decimated the terms and conditions of it's first officers as Spice has. I have confronted my management on this issue and they redirect it to cold hard supply/demand facts. While they are a business, they are merely hiring opportunists until a better option comes along and they move on. I have been in this company for over five years and I have seen this place turn from THE most exciting place to work to a mere stepping stone.

What next?

If only we could boycott this company's recruitment policy. If only everyone here had some co-operation and genuine concern to the community of us freshers /trainee pilots.
If only everyone could joint for a movement where absolutely not a single soul attends these pretense for exams and screening processes by paying such unjustified "fee".

Cheers,
P

if it is to be believed, the spicejet exam for non-type rated candidates is very much ON. its being done secretively for a few guys who have a strong backing of some people.

Considering what is going on in India with the Maran Brothers, I would seriously reconsider giving any money to Spicejet. They will be in financial dire straits if K.M is arrested. No bank will loan them money. Expansion will stop. SG will go into decline.

thegrapevine - How reliable is the information you've posted? So this entire episode where Mahantesh Pyati (HR) sends out emails to all the candidates mentioning that the exam has been postponed isn't for real? In that case, what a bummer!

NGfellow - I don't think it would be the end of SpiceJet if Kalanithi Maran is arrested. Aren't there other people to run the show?

In a company like spicejet where adhocism is the only policy, we had , in the deepest of recent recessions, circa late 08 to mid 09 about half a dozen FOs hired for the extremely influential elite.
There are different rules for the regular folks like you and me and different rules for the rich and connected. I have seen a steady stream of guys and girls coming on line randomly with no coherent pattern. So there you have it, yes they conduct the money making exercise to appease the masses and the 'chosen ones' waltz in through the back door.
Even if you do get hired, be prepared to be pushed to the back of the line as deals are made to bypass you in the training rigmarole.
The ultimate tool these guys hold is one of opacity. The moment you introduce transparency to the system, the skeletons will tumble out and take a lot of careers down with it.

@beinghuman
When you go and get a NOC for Type rating it is mentioned there that Capt. XYZ has been given a NOC .so there is no point saying that one is not a captain until he gets command.

And about the type rated exam it is very much ON the classes are starting on the 17th Oct and the exam is on the 17th of NOV I have a few friends going for the classes.

all the fellow pprune followers, who are suspecting the credibility and authenticity of this mail, kindly contact the HR dept at Spicejet and findout for yourselves.

Latest Development- Everyone is tight lipped about the Exam for non-type rated CPL holders, the only info i could get was, that the exam for non-type rated guys will only take place (still tentative) after the exam for TR guys which is scheduled to be held on the 17th of November.

Aviatroz,

While I understand the convention in India, if a PPL calls himself Captain any where else in the world he will get laughed out of the building and ruffle quite a few feathers among the other aviators. I had 11,000 hours and 3 type ratings when an airline I worked for downsized and I had to fly as First Officer again. I can assure you that neither myself or my co-workers called me Captain when I no longer was one. This is an international forum and aviation does not begin and end at the borders of India. Save yourself some embarrassment some day and refer to yourself as a pilot or First Officer until you have earned the title of Captain. When you have command of an aircraft with a crew and more than one engine and perhaps a type rating you may call yourself Captain. Please don't take this as an affront. I understood it while I was in India and smiled to myself when I heard it. But, I know that it deeply offends some in this industry and you may fly with them some day.

Well said jet!
Share the same emotion.

When you have command of an aircraft with a crew and more than one engine and perhaps a type rating you may call yourself Captain.
Don't want to hijack the "informative" thread elsewhere but just a quick question.

Can you not become the captain of a C-208 with a single engine operated by a single pilot?

The question to be asked is, what is your position in the company. We have plenty of exmilitary guys flying in our airlines. We do not salute them as avm, vm, sq ldr etc. They held these positions in their previous job.
Your colleagues and others from various departments do not know your background. So expecting to be called captain when you aren't one in your particular airline is asking for a bit much.
I spent 3 yrs as an FO here and I used to cringe every time people called me captain, because I knew that I didn't deserve that title. I eventually got tired of asking people not to and just gave up.
I recall about five years ago sitting at CME chatting with a guy and he addressed himself as captain. I was quite impressed that he had achieved so much in so little time as he looked quite young. So further enquiry from my side revealed that he was there for his initial class one and had a grand total of 0 hrs under his belt.
I reckon the title is thrown around quite casually without realizing the hard work that goes into eventually being worthy of being called a captain.
Personally, I would be just as happy if someone just addressed me by my first name.
