HunGJaI, when did you take your AT? Have you received the denial email yet? If not, then why do you think you have already failed?

Seriously?

Hey guys,

I have to admit, I wasn't up to my optimal state when I was taking IT last week 16th April. The rejection was swift and quick. I seriously thought I would at least make it to AT, but it was cut short on such violent notice.

I realize the math test wasn't anywhere near "Easy", but I have absolute confidence regarding the English test (alright, maybe I screwed up the listening too, but so did a lot of survivors in this long run)

When I applied to CX January this year, I honestly thought I wouldn't even pass Stage 1A, but here I am, waiting for final interview at the big company at the end of June. I have no clue what is it CX like about me, and what is it that made me fail so miserably at KA...

When I checked my application status a few days ago after seeing all these celebratory posts, my blood ran cold. Even if I am to fail at AT, I will still have some credibility at CX's final interview. But KA, the next most similar airline said otherwise.....

A friend told me a fail at KA doesn't mean anything to CX because the previous selections have proven me capable otherwise, and if that is the case, there would be no reason for them to recruit separately. Still, I lost a great card that I could have played on the table

It would be great if someone can give me some insights regarding the selection in these sister companies. How different are their selections? What puts them apart? It is my first time applying and I thought it will be great if someone give me some insights on such obscure topic

I won't worry too much about it and focus on the final interview then flight grading

I think KA and CX don't talk to each other about their applicants... I've heard people will fail at one but get hired for the other...

Good luck with the interview in July

It was the same for me too. I failed KA at the IT, but yet I passed for CX. Just waiting on a few medical tests at the moment. They do ask you in the interview if you applied for KA or not, and I just told them the truth that I failed, and gave them a legitimate reason why I thought I did. Obviously they didn't seem to mind.

Will it be possible that KA failed you because of your progress with CX is being so well so they wanna spend the resource on recruiting other potential applicants rather than a guy who's about to be a cadet in CX?

One simple answer.

CX hires 200-300 cadets annually
While
KA hires 35 cadets annually

While the application pool are essentially the same

Now you see why KA has to be more selective?

Chris, but CX hires anyone under CPP whereas KA hires only permanent residents. So the pool for KA is also smaller. Have you wondered why your application ID has 4 digits suffix where CX has 5?

Chris Dolpin Drake Hung

Thanks guys. Appreciate the encouragement. Off to the books!

Dolpinsky I really doubt they have any connections, but I hope you are right about the second part XD

Drake, what did you give them as a legitimate reason?

I'm not sure about that. I think CX has limited the CPP to HkID owner nowadays..they used to allow foreigners too but I don't think now they do.

In their (CX) application page, it says :
"Please note that we are currently ONLY recruiting for the Cadet Pilot Programme for which a permanent HKID card is required."

It makes sense because collectively as a whole Hongkong, the city wants to provide more opportunities to its own people nowadays. Jobs such as pilot r really limited, and if they still don't favor it's own people after so many years of letting foreigners to establish the company's infrastracture, it wouldn't make sense. I think CX and KA are doing the right thing now.

I am really happy that even press are saying "Hk is ready now"

Sorry out of topic, just something I'm really passionate talking about. I should not do this in interview

I just told them that I wasn't prepared enough, and that in-house listening test and numeric test caught me with my pants down

Drake

Its good to hear that. I hope my situation turns out as optimistic as yours.

I heard a friend say an interviewing captain failed an interviewee for taking too long (1 year) to obtain a supposedly simple PPL. They can really sentence you to death for any reason....

Best of luck to people who are still in the program. May the thrust be with you

Chris

Engineer in name I guess.

I think your question will be answered better in the CX cadet thread. Sorry to the KA wannabes for the slight cross contamination. Feel free to visit the dominant CX thread sometime if you havent!
