Makes me laugh at the herd mentality here....1000 typed 737 pilots ..hardly 50-100 can get absorbed that too with some high level contacts .....what if they get an offer sometime later from indigo or go air maybe else requiring 320 type rating ..they will have to pay for it again ,dont forget the recurrency required by the type every 6 months till you get a job... colossal waste of money even if you can afford it....what is everyone thinking

Ah, thanks for correcting.

I do know all that, just got a little confused as to what cost of training they were talking about. I wronged it. Thanks for mentioning though.

One thing that Air india express gives its pilots is JOB SECURITY compared to all the other airlines in india. They wont shut their doors as long as our good indian citizens keep paying taxes..

So 5 years commitment will be a walk in the park and once you have done your time with them, you are basically set for life.

@SuperflyTNT,

I dont have any direct contacts with span-air, but I have only HEARD that they do require pilots. They are in need of CPL holders with King Air rating.
(they will also consider you with only king air type rating and no hours on type)

BUT .. do try to find out more yourself. dont just take my word for it.

@Indair967 and others,

Talking about herd mentality ! .. beat this ... :

I went to DGCA office last week and met a group of guys who were submitting their application for NOC (on Boeing 737, what else !!?)

one guy however was aparently going for an ATR rating.

Out of curiosity I just asked him why he was going for an ATR rating, when everyone else was in the mad rush for a boeing rating ..

This is exactly what he said : "Arre bhai, sab log boeing ki rating karne ja rahe hain. Airbus bhi bahut se log kar chuke hain. Mere khyal se koi bhi banda ATR nahin kar raha hoga. Toh jis se pehle ATR ki bimari phael jaye, main rating lake airlines mein apply karunga" !!!!!

English Translation :
("Brother, everyone is doing a boeing rating. Many are going for Airbus rating also. I feel in this mad rush, no one is thinking about ATR, so before the ATR FEVER spreads, I'll do an ATR type rating and quickly apply to the airlines !!")

insanity has no limits

madness and insanity have no limits.

1. First it was the 6000 + CPL holders unemployed !

2. Next it was the hundreds going for an A320 rating !!

3. next we see thousands going for 737 rating !!!

4. unconfirmed .. but next ATLEAST some 100 odd rated candidates are planning to buy 300 or 500 hours time block from eaglejet, globalpilottraining etc.
(even as I write, I see the ad for buying a type rating and line training from a well known outfit, just above this window on pprune !! haha )

how about an AN-225 endorsement !!!!!!!!! it would quite interesting to see the Syllabus for training issued by DGCA ..... If you ask me I would never even want to join an airline ... **** life is so boring there !!!!! daily fly on the same freaking route ... if you guys want to spend your parents hard earned money on something more productive then its better to spend on a light Jet like Hawker or a citation ... there are still a lot of opportunities in general aviation in India .. go knock on each door sit on there head something might work out .

No pal.
It does not make much difference in terms of the amount of "problems" created, regarding competition.

The main problem is not about people madly rushing for a type rating.

The main problem is the figure of almost 8000 unemployed pilots. (CPL holders plus those with CPL and type rating).

The additional "problem" created by these few 1000+ 737 rated guys will hardly matter.

The biggest problems soon to be faced are :

1. Phenomenal spending by unemployed pilots. Many will be in thousands of $$$ debt.

2. Burn out and total loss of motivation towards career and life in general.
Nothing can be worse than being unemployed and having to keep spending and spending and spending more more and more money without any hope of employment in the end.
I have seen guys spend over Rupees 60 lakhs in total (getting sucked by stupid schemes like Batavia Air/Simcenter), and fare miserably at the training centers. Their minds have gone for a toss. Their family is upset with them. Their friends have settled down with proper careers and got married, have a family, and have gone far ahead in life.
Depression and desperation both start to kick in big time. An ugly combination.

@alphabravocharlie1 -i believe u are also a part of a wider problem on pprune
of exaggerating facts and painting a gloomy picture about everything..its very hard
to find out facts when some people exaggerate so much....where the hell did you
come up with a figure of 8000+ unemployed pilots when 10000 series licences are being issued at the moment...u mean to say only 2000 pilots are and were employed in all the airlines from the time the first license was issued ....get your facts right and dont try to create a gloomy environment to discourage everyone....the no stands at around 5000 something plus 1600 that sat in the dgca paper in the last attempt.....
