What I meant was that Air India didn't need a current IR in order for a candidate to apply for the written examination. I'm not sure whether they needed it to move on to get their type rating done.

Thank you GD for letting us know the ir currency requirement by N.A airlines and many other airlines in the world. It's good to make us aware of it.

Thank you Agent 123, Arcane and INDAIR for your inputs about ir currency requirement policy of AI (which is quite similar to many other airlines in Asia from what I have heard), Jetairways and other private airlines in india.

Airforce, you have your answer from both an indian, and an international aviation perspective.

Back to vacancy or rumours of it...

Jet to retire all expat pilots by fiscal-end- Airlines / Aviation-Transportation-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times

I don't have the facts about Indian senior co-pilots' experience on type, so I cannot comment whether this is a good thing or bad thing. Also because it will affect a lot of expats who had chosen to fly for Jet. There's bound to be a controversy over it.

The possibility of recruitment of indian cpl holders is in the air, although analysts say Jet will not need too many pilots after capacities have been reduced. Check agent 123's post for predictions.

@IndAir967: Great job keeping this list updated. You are helping out a lot of people through this and I hope it comes around and benefits you in some way in the future.

@Agent123: Your predictions are quite humorous. Let's hope that the optimism is not misplaced.

About the recruitment at Air India Express, just wanted to clarify if they are looking for FOs or Captains?? Because the word document on the website says Captains. Also does anyone know how many pilots they are looking for or what the status is currently after all the financial problems they have been having??

This is seriously depressing, I am starting my CPL training in a few weeks and things look horrible in India. Dont know what I am going to do once I am done.

@AviatorVette
If you're starting in a few weeks then by the time you finish things should be looking a lot better. Aviation as an industry ain't going nowhere. So just fasten your seatbelt and hope for the best.

@aviatorVette: if you still have a couple of weeks to go before you start your training. get out now and go get a degree instead.

even if there is an aviation boom again (unlikely for the next 10-15 years) the backlog is so tremendous that you don't stand a chance.

but hey, if you have the money lying around gathering dust. go for it! don't like little things like world economic meltdown and pilot glut stop ya!

Bad Move

AviatorVette : At the moment the risk benefit ratio at the stock market may give you a better return than putting your money into your CPL training, and remember the stock market is Volatile! Now do you get the short & long term picture??

Danger

I just noticed - there are 4600 people giving DGCA Pilot exams this time. Even if you knock off 500-odd (ATPL, PPL etc.), we're still left with 4000+ people who are about to get their CPL soon.

I beg to differ. The population is in fact a boon if utilized properly. A larger population means a bigger workforce means more spending power means an economy growing at a much higher rate which is only true as long as the right education is provided. It is the visionless gutless unmotivated administration in this country that is completely messed up.

Well I am actually a private pilot and I have my instrument checkride next week and I will start my commercial training after that. I think the problem is that there are too many people who joined flight training for the wrong reasons. I personally know a lot of people who have taken massive loans for the airline courses and are struggling right now to find a job. People in my school have no interest in flying, they just joined for the high salaries in the airlines. There are people in my school who just taxi around the plane on the ground, instead of hour building up in the skies. My point is that because of a lot of people who are in this for the wrong reasons it causes problems for people like me. I am very confused now and I really hope this improves.
