The Flap/Slat Control Units on the 767 are relatively crude by current standards (not surprising - the basic design being nearly 40 years old). They put out analog discretes for 'flaps not stowed' -...

I suspect the stated sequence is a bit off - i.e. the captain selected flaps 1, then bumped TOGA. TOGA is armed as soon as 'flaps not stowed' is true which would happen almost immediately after...

"Disconnecting" the autopilot on a 767 is trivial - just push or pull with a few pounds of force and it disconnects (with an aural alert in case it's inadvertent). Similarly it takes about 2 lbs....

The shoulder portions of the five point harnesses on the 767 are the inertia type - so depending on the 'rate' it's quite feasible for a pilot to 'pitch' forward into the controls. Besides, he...

Pattern, I've been thinking sudden incapacitation for a couple of weeks (early on I postulated a large bird through the forward bulkhead as a possibility if you go back enough pages) - or something...

Sorry, but my expertise is in propulsion/engines - I'm not very knowledgeable about the structural aspects or details of how the flight controls work.

Pretty much all I can add in that respect is...

The exception would be if they quickly suspect there was some sort of failure that could exist on other 767s - in which case I'd expect something out very quickly to alert the rest of the fleet of a...

Given the hull loss rate of the 767 (~1 in 10 million departures), pretty much any cause is going to be in the 'very' to 'extremely' improbable range. That's why we never rule anything out until...

While I'm not familiar with the AD in question, it's pretty common for the AD compliance times in question to be staggered based on risk (for structural issues it's typically age related - hours...

I wouldn't consider 100m x 200m large at all - in fact for an aircraft the size of a 767 that's on the small side. It would also rule out any in-flight breakup (unless of course they find bits at...
