Move Wellington Airport to the Hills....

So a local Councillor and property "investor" think it would be a great idea to move NZWN up into the hills above Wellington harbor where apparently the constant cloud and wind wouldn't affect...

So the council have finally put $1m into the study for a 300m runway extension to the northern runway end into Evans bay. The airport authority also putting in $1m.

I'm guessing that last comment was tounge in cheek, why would a civilian A320 have any kind of EWF warning system? I bet the first they knew of it was the two explosions nearby that must have rattled...

@ad-adstra I don't find it surprising but i had never heard of it before. I fly in there a lot in GA aircraft and had been told that it was a "captain only" approach for some airlines but wasnt sure...

Hi,

Heard a rumour that landing at NZWN is captain only landing for jets, I find this a bit hard to believe, can anyone confirm or deny? I'm only a PPL but surely the star and ils approach arent...
