I thought the a/c was a write off due...

I thought the a/c was a write off due exceptionally heavy landing (not a write off just due bulkhead damage) - a/c is now so 'bent' it is beyond repair.

I think what has been said about standard profile...

I think what has been said about standard profile above is correct - eg the QF 767-300, used a standard descent speed of current mach no./300kts, and the QF 767-200 with Pratt's used 320kts...

After watching a few sims with S/o's with nil experience vs S/o's with lots of experience, i would definately say that the S/os with no experience can be better than the S/os with lots of experience....

Had some brief success early last night with Volmets and some traffic from Brisbane ATC on HF. Couldnt hear the aircraft replies very well tho. Almost could hear some chatter (usually manila i think)...

Its a Sony ICF-SW7600GR. Just in case anybody knows the model.
Apparently it covers LW/MW and SW and FM.

I have my trusty sony worldband radio - supposedly capable of picking up HF - Radio Australia etc - presumably it can (if operated correctly and feeling really bored)receive Aircraft HF...

You mean, you would never go near the aircrafts performance limitations? Why not set the limitations for crosswind or tailwind all 10 knots lower, in fact why not make all runways just a giant field...
