SQ286 Tail strike report

I hear whispers that the report by NZ authorities, on the tail strike incident in Auckland, with SQ 286, will not be published or may not be released. Can anyone help with any relevant info on this report.
The incident, is of great interest to the heavy pilots (aircraft weight) generally.

Exclamation

Aviation is an industry that needs the findings of accidents and incidents to be published, so that we can ALL learn by others' misfortunes.
This has been the acceptable format for many decades now - publication of accident/incident reports to allow informed discussion, for the sake of future learning and SAFETY.

There is NO ROOM for organisations that want to hide the findings of such investigations.
To do so is ANTI-SAFETY, and AGAINST the welfare of aviation and those who utilise it - even if only infrequently!

Does not really matter if they decide to sweep it under the carpet. We all know what happened already but it seems to be a political manouvre of the Helen organization to protect possible SIA favours to ANZ.

Speaking Of Tail Strikes

Found a video of a couple of B747-100's. One looks like Pan Am and the other could be the Boeing prototype.
Its only 2.5MB
The link for the video

Snowballs, I'd like to know where you got that information from. TAIC are required to publish a report once they choose to conduct, and then complete an investigation. Don't worry, a report will be issued. I have read the operator's report, and can also tell you that their findings, which will closely mirror TAICs, will come as little surprise to those who have read the older threads on this topic.

If indeed Ms Clark and Mr Koong have been conspiring to prevent TAIC from publishing their report, which would be unlawful (the Transport Accident Investigation Act 1999 refers), and if they somehow succeed in doing so, then a request under the Official Information Act to have the report released will have to be made. They would have to have a good reason (commercial sensitivity would be more than outweighed by the so-called public "interest") to have the report suppressed. Failing that the Ombudsman, and then an application to the High Court would then be made. Naturally this would probably have to be done by an institution, I mean no individual would go through all that cr@p.

And if that fails I might have to send you an email.

Good thing this possibility has been aired. I for one will now be asking TAIC some questions, like, when do they expect the report to be published. And they better have an answer I want to hear.

Word is that the aircraft in question had to be written off.

Apparently the pressure bulkhead at the rear of the aircraft was damaged and Boeing was unable or unwilling to guarantee that any repairs would be 100% effective. They have some experience in that area, unfortunately.

I asked TAIC about the investigation a few weeks ago and they replied (by email) that the report should be published within " the next couple of months " (or words to that effect). There seemed to be no coyness about publishing the report.

I thought the a/c was a write off due exceptionally heavy landing (not a write off just due bulkhead damage) - a/c is now so 'bent' it is beyond repair.

It's a zip file but must be very large, I gave up after waiting ten minutes for a down load. Probably nothing wrong with your computer.

Is it still there?

Is the SIA B744 still there. Last time I was up it was down near the freight hangers apparently waiting for a hangar to be built over the tail so they could repair it there (that's what I was told anyway), as they couldn't move it. If it is a write off will they cut her up there?

If you're asking if it's still at AKL, it isn't. It was flown home a while ago.

The publishing of the report is a statutory requirement - end of story - it is pathetic to see someone let their political bias against a politician (the NZ PM) lead them to conclude that that person would interfere with the normal legal process of events. Grow up you people.

Oooh! Nzer, whack us with your handbag why don't you ducky.

If I may be so bold (and off-topic) as to observe, it was only last week that "that person" interfered in the legal process of NZ in a HUGE way (or have you already forgotten the Dutch citizenship issue?).

Someone mentioned that he has gone back to the LHS with Sri Lankan from whence he originally came....and where 230,000kg is more likely to spit out the right V numbers given they operate the Bus.

Not sure what happened to the other two but think they may not not be blessed with the same exit strategy opportunity.
