It turns out that by BT home hub is the problem, it stopped letting me connect to my ISP smtp. If I use my 02 iphone as a hot spot it works.

Not sure how to fix a home hub.

Edit. Factory reset...

Cleaned up the system and removed AVG.....big difference!

I'm not familiar with Defender, is it up to the job on its own? Obviously 3rd party sellers run it down.

Correct. It started working again by using adifferent instruction. Instead of saying 'play radio 4' I now have to say 'stream radio 4'. Picky about language.

I trained with Edinburgh Air Centre in the 70's and Hugh Allen was one of my instructors, wonderfull chap. He was lost in an accident in the 80's, I had long gone by then and don't know the details....
