Keeping PPL valid when have a CPL

Hi guys I have a small query i'd like some of your knowledge on.

If a CPL is gained do you keep both your CPL and your PPL valid or would the PPL be renewed as the CPL is renewed?

I was under the impression that this heats the oil up making it less viscous so it can travel around the engine better. Thick oil aint very good at lubricating engine parts.
