Ground exams and learning in the Glasgow area.

Hi folks,
So i'm nearly ready to begin sitting my ground exams. I'm coming to the end of studying for Air Law/Operational Procedures and would like to sit the exam soon.

My question is: Where should i go to sit the exams? Does anyone have any recommendations?

As i've said before, i'll be sitting the exams before i begin flight training in 2012, and i'm not yet sure as to where i'll be doing my training. (either in the Glasgow/Prestwick area or if that proves to be too expensive, abroad to Florida). Since i haven't decided on a school yet, can i sit my exams at an FTO without say joining and paying membership fees?

Does anyone have any recommendations for FTOs in the Glasgow/Prestwick area? If the school is good enough it may sway my decision to sit the exams there and carry on through to flight training when funds are available.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

not really answering your question but ill try explain where i am coming from.

I also am thinking about going to the states next summer to complete my training after graduation. so this summer i wanted to get all my paperwork out of the way.

rung up a few flying schools, priced the cheapest and went with that. they didnt charge me a membership fee but some do, and they could do the RT exam in house.

I now have done 5 of the exams. the remaining two booked in for next wednesday. a medical booked in for saturday and my RT practical booked in for next friday.

So it is possible to do it. Just get calling schools. they are all usually very helpful.

You can take your PPL theory exams at any flying school you wish, they should enter your results on a PPL application form and give you that to take away. How much that costs and whether it includes a membership charge is a commercial decision and may be negotiable. You could also use this as an opportunity to check out possible places to do the flying training.

Leading Edge, Cumbernauld
Glasgow Flying Club, Glasgow
Prestwick Flying Club, Prestwick

All good examiner availability. Don't forget your exams have an 18 month shelf-life!

exam validity

Remember to complete your PPL flight training and test before 24 months of the last exam passed for them to remain valid.

"A pass will be accepted for the grant of a JAR-FCL PPL(A) during the 24 months from the date of successfully completing all of the theoretical knowledge examinations." From LASORS 2010

Good luck!

Exams

Amblikai,

One of our members directed me to your post. Your mention of 'FTO' raises the question if this is PPL training you are referring to as FTO are generally for the Commercial Training.

If it is PPL the I am sure most clubs will be able to help you; India-Mike has already identified the ones in your chosen area.

I operate Leading Edge at Cumbernauld who are now part of ACS Aviation who have an FTO based at Perth Airport providing Commercial Training.

We also have a link with Air Service Training who provide the ATPL ground school.

I would suggest you visit the schools (not just ours!) and get a feel for what is best for you.
