Keeping PPL valid when have a CPL

Hi guys I have a small query i'd like some of your knowledge on.

If a CPL is gained do you keep both your CPL and your PPL valid or would the PPL be renewed as the CPL is renewed?

Many Thanks

Your CPL would replace your PPL.

Why do it if it's not fun?

From the ANO, CAP 393, Schedule 7:
Section 2 - JAR-FCL Licenses
Sub-Section 1 - Aeroplane Pilots

Commercial Pilot License (Aeroplanes)

Privileges and Conditions:

(1) Subject to any conditions specified for the licence, the privileges of the holder of a Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) are to:

(a) exercise all the privileges of the holder of a JAR-FCL Private Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) which includes a night qualification;

(b) .....
In other words, with a CPL, you can do everything you can with a PPL and more.

But that's only if you have the appropriate rating, and if that rating is kept current. I wonder if what you're really asking is whether you'd be able to fly your club C152 with a mate at the weekend to go and get a burger. If you want to do that, you'll need a license (PPL, CPL or ATPL, doesn't matter) and a valid SEP(Land) rating. The SEP(Land) rating on your PPL will be transfered to your CPL when the CPL is issued, but you must still revalidate or renew it when it expires if you want to use it.

I've got a valid for life for UK PPL which I believe gives me microlight and TMG privileges as my SEP is current.

I also hold a BCPL which I hope to upgrade to a JAR CPL in the next few weeks. Do I still keep the microlight and TMG privileges?

I went PPL(M) --> JAR PPL(SEP) --> JAR CPL(SEP). My CPL still shows my microlight privileges.

You can keep your lifetime PPL when you get a JAA CPL if you wish but you are not permitted to hold more than one JAA (or EASA) licence for the same aircraft category. After April 2012, the lifetime PPL will be valid only on Annex II aircraft
