Whether he turned left or right, the decision was made. IMHO the basic flaw was to move off/away from the safe landing area before being sure of power margins available.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I was under the impression that training for a CIR in Aus can be completed in an IFR trainer (R22/R44/H269), but the test must be taken in an IFR aircraft.
