We'd get residual fires on shutdown in CH-47's occasionally, PTIT would start to climb & you'd see smoke out of the exhaust. Just motor the affected engine for a few seconds to put it out.

All US Army CH-47D's except for 3 new builds started off life as an A, B, or C model & were still using the original airframes - still a few out there, 50+ years old now. Granted, not a lot else...

The old metal blades were easier to get smooth than the composite blades that replaced them in the 80's....

Bell 47's & Hiller 12's didn't have low rpm warning - neither did CH-47's, at least through the D model (haven't set foot in anything newer).

I did it in 43 hours, about a month from start to finish - flying a couple sessions a day when weather & availability permitted. I think that definitely helped speed things up...this was in the R22....

CH-47's also have transmission driven generators (plus one on the APU on D & newer models), the engines have hydraulic starters.
