CRM for Instructors

I am currently doing research into whether it would be benificial for a CRM course to be established specifically for instructors. I do understand that some instructors are keen while others feel it is a drag.
What I am looking for is not a debate on the pros and cons but input on possible topics to be included.

CRM would indeed be useful to IPs, since good airmanship (which should be taught to the student) also involves knowledge about your team. The team being those in the aircraft, ATC, meteorologists, mechanics and fellow students etc.
CRM, as practised by the airlines, would not be very useful in daily operations, since the IP is (usually) not supposed to help the student unless he/she is unable to perform the task safely by him-/ herself. However, one could perhaps focus on the need to involve the rest of the team in case of an emergency / urgency situation.

<...usually, not supposed to help.... >

Well, having been in line training for a long time, could not disagree more.
Help/assist the trainee as much as possible, to achieve the desired results...a well trained line pilot that can pass the required check flights AND be a safe and efficient pilot.

CRM in the training situation? Not all that useful, the trainee has to get the message, and sometimes it takes harsh words to get their attention...and co-operation.
Been that way for a long time, and not likely to change anytime soon.

My bad! What I meant was that one cannot help the student in the same way as you would help each other in an airliner: The student will not command me to tune frequencies and fill out the operational flightplan; neither will I be handling the com as PNF, as the student is trained for single-pilot operation. The MCC course will take care of that bit. But of course you must help and assist the student in order for him / her to learn something!
But then the question does not specify whether this is about line training og basic flying training either...
However, I still think CRM would be useful for IPs if they are to teach the student the real value of their team and how to use it.

What would you define "airmanship"?

Airmanship:

Firstly, a pilot needs to have the basics in place, such as discipline, skill and proficiency. Without these basic skills, no-one can expect to become a safe pilot. Next he/she needs to have the maximum knowledge about him-/herself, the team, the risks involved, the environment (both physical and regulatory), the aircraft and the mission. This will improve Situational Awareness, which in turn will enable the pilot to, consistently, make good decisions (good judgement, based on knowledge and experience). The total package is what we call "airmanship".

I would have thought that a CRM course for Instructors would be a brilliant idea. I am at one of the UK's airlines and we have just introduced a course for pre-commands that is essentially a CRM refresher with a lot more about personal awareness than has traditionally been found on CRM courses. The course is thought to be so important that all the Training Appointment Holders will be doing an abridged version of the course so that they can take the content of the course onto the line and into the simulator.

The course consists of modules on S.A., Decision making, Teamwork, Leadership & Management, Legal, Customer and the Business and Feedback. People on the course are given the opportunity to work on their overall awareness by using several specially produced video scenarios which are then debriefed. The course is still being fine tuned but I believe is taking CRM training in the direction we need to go.

Thank you very much for the worth while input. I have just been on one of THOSE recurrents followed by some leave, only to get back and find some very helpful info both on the forum and some e-mails. Once again thank you and I look forward to reading some more.
