Sadly as its going to be a G-BY 747-400 we wont see it at the foot of the "empire" here in CPT....only low J models come our way.....by chance was on "VM" down here last night

If I remember correctly BA painted the last B747 Classic in BOAC colours before sending it to the sctapyard.

Whilst welcome, I would prefer to see BA bring back the VC10 for the BOAC paint job. :)

That would certainly draw a crowd to the end of 27R

I'd certainly love to see photos of that. It's strange that a hard-nosed organisation like BA would spend money on something that would have a limited shelf life and no commercial benefit.

DaveReidUK

They did this when the -200's retired.

The then FM(Tech) later FOD was involved - I didn't see it so have no photos - there must be some somewhere however..

frieghtdog2000 23rd Jan 2019 18:22

Great - someone posted the picture - at least it confirms the memory is not as fallible as I thought!

Thanks for that.

So the Speedbird tail and BOAC titles applied over the Landor livery minus the Speedwing. That makes a lot more sense than repainting the whole aircraft in the BOAC scheme.

Cheap and cheerful but at least they had a go! Not enough gold for the BOAC lettering.

The good times...

No wonder their TriStars wore a smile :)

Lovely image of a beautiful aircraft. Interesting cloud formation behind the tail.

A little wing-flex there wouldn't have gone amiss. Nice piece of art though.

In the old days, Southwest in-flight magazine had a centre-spread of the (fully clothed) Stewardess of the Month.

I was living in Vietnam when Vietjet started up. They had an inspired campaign using models wearing bikinis in Vietjet colours. They did photo shoots and also had them dancing in the aisles on one flight. An appropriate government department was morally outraged and fined them 20 million dong! Since that is less than $1000, it was very cheap PR!

This ^^^^ almost converted me to Airbus - and Canon.

From my photo archives. I inherited a large number of BEA/BOAC press photos at the time of the merger. Ironically I had the opportunity to
give BA something in return. The BA press Office in Frankfurt was unable to meet the enquiries from journalists, authors, etc., so I provided
all the photo material from my archives, which I gladly did. For years, and free of charge, of course.

BEA 71

Most if not all were also on board postcards

BEA 71 24th Jan 2019 08:22

Yes, but, if I remember it right, these were all made from paintings/drawings ( BOAC ). Here we are talking about size 8 x 10 press photographs.
Postcards are a totally different department.

I so hope they do one of them in a BEA red square scheme.....will look great parked next to that lovely retro-scheme Lufthansa A321 (if its still around as not seen it at LHR for a while?) and the retro scheme Air Lingus one.

Here's how an A380 might look in the 'red square' livery:
