I believe that companies have to give notice of possible redundancies in line with the notice period in your contract.
Hence all staff on a 3 month notice period get 90 days notice before redundancies start.
This may be what you refer to!

Air 2000 staff are currently in the 30 day consultation period prior to the company commencing a redundancy program in mid November.
The previously well publicised figure of 1100 across the group has not changed. Pilots are currently still awaiting final figures of proposed permanent and winter lay off's. The BALPA CC are working with the management to explore all avenues of cost savings to reduce the number of mandatory redundancies.

Your hatred of FCL/JMC doesn't ease with time does it?
Just remember - FCL culture came from a Jewish lad just like yourself - and for whom Foo (a Gentile) was proud to have been associated
So what's your problem?

Air 2000 have put us on 30 days consultation period for redundancies. They have not stated how many will go but the feeling is it will be well in excess of 100.
It has been stated that the government requires a minimum 30 day consultation period if 100 or less are to be laid off. With a minimum of 90 days consultaton if more than 100 are to go. If this is true things are going to be delayed at Air 2 bob.
The crew is getting demoralised and just want to be told whats happening. We are getting visits from management again and again and each time they tell us nothing they are just spending more money!
The rumours don't help, staff are feeling bad enough but when they think the company is trying to screw them they feel worse. Charter flying needs crew co-operation to succeed and the way we're going they won't get it.

Have to say guys, that when there is bad news coming down the pike, most managements' clam-up and say nothing 'til the last minute. This does a terrible dis-service to loyal employees.
They should get any bad news out in the open as soon as possible, but this rarely happens. Sad.

Finally, 411A, a sensible, un-biased-against-AA posting...did it hurt?
For what it's worth, though, I agree with you completely - very sad for the employees involved. Like you, I wish them all the best in troubled times.
Here's a chance for you and, dare I say it, Guv, to explain the management side of these sort of situations (no malice intended - let's just hear another side of the story...). Let the discourse begin.

Well RRAAMJET, from my perspective, there are three types of managers--those that are empire building and self-serving, those that, by luck, stumbled into the position and are just trying to hang on and hope that nobody notices, and those that really do give a damn and try their level best in their position.
The latter type seem to last the shortest time, unfortunately.
For those that DO try-- should be at all times honest with their employees and when unpopular actions are needed for the company to survive, at least have the courtesy to minimize disruption to employees lives.
A Chief Pilot (for example) must report to the DFO, and pass down his directives, like it or not. Sometimes not a pleasant experience. Many however would choose to attack the messanger rather than the message.

What a load of horse sh+t.
Dream up a better rumour. If we are about to go under then (again) I doubt we will hear it on here first.
Stroll on (off a cliff) whoever thought this drivel up.

I hate waste, and the destruction of the better part of a decade of institutional knowledge is an unforgivable crime.
So there you have what I detest.
That destruction took a mildly profitable company with a 5+ year history of making profits to a deep sea of RED for the last 3 years.
All the while they cast aside the good people who were doing the work without so much as a thank you.
Roger Grey did not deserve that sort of treatment, nor did the dozens of others...
Time doesn't make a crime any less wrong.
Cheers

Itchypuss, it's more important that the aircraft go to the US and that is 90% likely. Also another overseas contact is shortly to be confirmed. I don't say this out of smugness but when such wild rumours about your company are posted it is important to quash them asap.
BB: with 2 A330's inbound I wouldn't be surprised if we do recruit in the spring especially as bookings will have recovered shortly after Christmas.

Intelligent management is a very rare thing in aviation. It is often undone by backstabbing and innuendo and office politics as happened to the AWD management.
My being Jewish doesn't mean that I would give a free pass to another Jew who was being stupid. Sorry we don't all look out for each other. There isn't a "Jewish Mafia" or anything like that (or alteast I haven't been initiated). Furthermore, I wasn't aware that ANY of the management of FCL was Jewish, probably because it isn't something I think about.
But I will always praise the AWD management, because in all my flying since 1987 they were the most rational management I have ever seen in an airline (I have worked for 9).
And to top it off, it was FUN! Anyone who wants to meet me in London for a beer, sing out and I will post a message before my next London layover.
Cheers
