Well RRAAMJET, from my perspective, there are three types of managers--those that are empire building and self-serving, those that, by luck, stumbled into the position and are just trying to hang on and hope that nobody notices, and those that really do give a damn and try their level best in their position.
The latter type seem to last the shortest time, unfortunately.
For those that DO try-- should be at all times honest with their employees and when unpopular actions are needed for the company to survive, at least have the courtesy to minimize disruption to employees lives.
A Chief Pilot (for example) must report to the DFO, and pass down his directives, like it or not. Sometimes not a pleasant experience. Many however would choose to attack the messanger rather than the message.
