This thread has certainly brought back fond memories of my stint with Bristow from the mid 70s to early 80s. Here are some of my photos:

Iran and Brent
Wow, some great photos posted here today. SAS, been digging around in my drawers (no, the other ones, not my soggy boxers :E) and found a few. I'll scan some more another day:
I've got some more, flying ones from Prakla somewhere, which I'll look out. 1978, Prakla Iran: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...laIran1978.jpg Also in Iran, Kharg Island, just before an ill-fated flight to remove a flare boom tip, which resulted in the tip hanging on to the top of the tower by just one bolt! http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...Island1978.jpg Treasure Finder 1983: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...Finder1983.jpg Brent 1983: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...Brent21983.jpg A Brent sunset: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3.../Brent1983.jpg This was the state-of-the art cockpit for the LN450 SAR 212s which Bristow developed in cooperation with Louis Newmark and was the precursor for the LN400 system in the SAR 61s. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ockpit1983.jpg We did a lot of SAR training and responded to quite a lot of SAR callouts considering it was a secondary task. Helicopters were on 15 minutes call to HMCG 24 hours a day: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...dFlare1983.jpg |
Redhill FTS
Bristow used to do servicing and modifications to Yugoslav police Bell 212s. I had a few comments from Gatwick controllers when doing ILSs into Gatwick with a YU callsign and a British accent:
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...212Redhill.jpg We also did some main gearbox overhauls for Okanagan Helicopters. I delivered this one to Liverpool docks for shipment back to Canada: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...erpool1988.jpg This was the S76 being prepared for the film "The Fourth Protocol': http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...otocol1987.jpg Engine-offs were fun in the snow (well. okay, they were always fun :E): http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...dhillJan87.jpg It's always a bad idea to let 2 flying instructors go off for a session of engine-offs together :}: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...r/BNBT1988.jpg Anybody remember the "Chief Barking Instructor' (staff number K9) who used to get taken for 'walkies' by 'Spanners' on many a lunchtime?: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...torRedhill.jpg Here's the original Bell 412 demonstrator which came over for the 1988 Farnborough airshow, then went up to North Denes on a trial for Amoco. I flew with the Bell pilots to familiarise them with the helilanes: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ell4121988.jpg |

However as the Lee contract is ending he will no doubt be back in Aberdeen or Den Helder soon if not continuing at Lee with CHC. |
