Just noticed I went through 1000 posts today. According to Danny's stat-cruncher, that's 1.17 posts a day! Sad or what? But, more to the point, it started me thinking about the forum.

We've now got a truly amazing spread of members ~
from student PPLs to Pros with thousands of hours in a whole host of different types and ops,
from Lu Zuckerman to Nick Lappos (you can't get more of a spread than that ),
and, most important,
members from the UK to the Antipodes, and almost every country in between whichever route you take.

There is so just so much talent and experience on this forum. As well as fascinating discussions, we get questions from all over the world about every conceivable aspect of helicopters and heli operations. Someone asks a question and another Rotorhead, often thousands of miles away, provides an answer in a few hours - usually closely followed by someone who says he's wrong or not quite right, but that's part of the fun. I don't think there's ever been a question which we've failed to answer. Sometimes, it's just a matter of referring to a previous thread. There's a wealth of learning in our archives.

My favourite thread of all time is probably still this one, which newer members may not have seen. It still makes me laugh. Nick Lappos - no more questions.

As a Mod, I rarely join in discussions (well, not in my Mod name anway ) it's the contributors who make the forum. You've made Rotorheads what now seems to be generally recognised as the best helicopter pilots' forum in the world.
Take a bow guys!

Enough of this sentimental crap!
Anyone want a job? I have to get a life some time!

(Edit)
Thank you for your PM, Lu. It's very kind of you to offer, but .........

And what does a Moderator do, exactly?

That's pretty sad actually.

However, your post raised a point. Lots of people have lots of identities here; I've got 3 for a start. Looking down the list of members reveals an awful lot of members who have registered but NEVER posted, and even more (like my 3rd ID) who have posted once or twice.

Couldn't you super-moderator type chaps have a bit of a purge now and then, and delete members who have not posted for, say, a year from the list?

Maybe the 64 930 members are actually only 15. How will we ever know without a bit of action by the Mod's? Advertising revenue may suffer of course, but all in the name of truth and justice.

Nick Lappos no more questions

A great thread of amusement.
It could never make the thousand posts but funny all the same.
I Say Lady G: Not only are these chopper pilots very clever. Value for money, they are funny..

It depends on the Moderator. If he doesn't do much a forum ambles along without many members and not much action which is what Rotorheads used to be like. The odd peak for a good thread and then back to the trough. Then there was a bit of a 'revolution' by the regulars and we got a new Mod in charge.
Heliport makes out Rotorheads just built up all on its own but don't believe a word of it. I used to run another forum nothing to do with aviation and I can tell you it takes a lot of time and effort to make it work. I made a reasonable fist of it but nothing like Heliport's done here.

Lord G
I assume you mean views not posts. Either way, there weren't as many of us then. The forum started growing a couple of years ago and has kept going ever since. Lo Hung Chun's thread is funny now but you probably had to be around at the time to appreciate how good it was. Nick had only just joined, everyone was bombarding him with questions and the post where Ho took the p*ss out of Nick, Lu and Dave Jackson was brilliant!

Take a bow Heliport!
And don't even think of retiring. You know you'd miss us!

Heliport:
FIrst of all, thanks for lending a touch of class to a field (not pprune, but internet forums in general) that seemed to have quickly degenerated into meaningless discussion.
I have found a lot of useful information here for the next edition of my book, and I only skim most of the discussions. How that quality is maintained is due to the actions of the moderators.

If you're looking for a second career, have you considered the Foreign Office, for diplomatic negotiations? Solving the Mid-East crisis would seem like child's play compared to stopping flame wars here.
Seriously, you've done a great job - now we just need to figure out a way to make it pay.
Ever thought of doing a book / article on the helicopter world in general?

Thanks Hoverman for that veiled comment, I think it might have shown a hint of appreciation!!

Many thanks to Heliport for his decorum in ruling a gaggle of scraggy professionals. Here's to your next 1000 ripostes!

Finally ta to all contributors for making me happy/sad/bored/wibble/shriek/groan/laugh.

Keep it coming.

Hey Pub User...

It's not because some people don't have lots to say that they don't enjoy reading and learning from others. Only 3 post or so myself but slowly getting more and more involved.

Why do you have a need for 3 user id? Have something to hide? ******!

Anyway... keep up the good work guys.

Galapagos

Of course I've got something to hide - my identity. These are anonymous forums after all, or is Galapagos your real name?

Incidentally, one of my IDs is my name.

hey guys

these forums are great. yes a forum is a two way thing but there is so much to learn, laugh about or disagree with that reading is the first step then writing the next......

remember the two crew concept. one writes and one reads....

Congratulations Heliport and Pedalstop, and all those at Pprune, especially those who invented this thing.

This forum is now the premier voice of Heli pilots in a non official sense.

There are always the greats at hand to remind you of how much you don't know, we all have a greater idea of what is going on in the industry, and we are able to shout stop with a loud credible voice to the Authorities and Employers who seem to be hell bent on screwing us over, with the help of people who have a vague idea how the system works such as the Flying Lawyer.

The excellent funny story telling abilities of T'aint natural, and Sasless, the Aussies and the Kiwis who always have interesting things to say, Senor Lappos, Lu Zuckerman, Shawn Coyle, John Eacott, Dave Jackson and others I cannot think of off the top of my head, who often put there good names on the line by replying to comments or answering question expecting to be shot down by others, knowing that the nature of pilots is that they know how to do things a better or different way to the way you know it.

Yeah, Once again well done, you have assembled some of the best in the business.

I take my cap off to y'all

Heliport deserves an "Atta Boy!" for his contributions to the forums here...he has done a commendable job in holding the line on propriety while simultaneously affording all an opportunity to express themselves. He has referee'd numerous multi-national boxing matches with both wisdom and restraint, which is indeed a most difficult undertaking. I look forward to seeing his inputs around these parts in the future and know he will continue to lead by example as he has done so in the past.

As they used to say on that wonderfully corny American comedy show....."Hee-Haw".......(members of the cast arising from the field of corn.....and tipping a straw hat.....)......"Sow-loot!" (fer ya'll on the eastern side of the great salt water divide......that translates to "Good on yer, Mate!"

....and Heliport....when I get off my lazy butt.....I will get that VHPA cap to you!

There's no helicopter forum in the world anywhere as good as Rotorheads. I don't post much but I check it most days.
It's good the base is much wider now than it used to be. It's good to read about guys flying ops i'll never do in places I'll probably never visit.
Big thanks to all the top posters and the moderators for keeping it all in good shape.
