Perhaps the R44 pilot subject of this thread was inspired by this video, as I implied earlier, some times when confronted with a situation you have to be adaptable, justinga above said a boat was on scene, it should have been left to them if that was the case. Some times folk are inclined to rush in and be the hero without due consideration of options, often referred to as a rush of blood.

In relation to the recent 206 ditching you claim to have access to video of a R44 doing some inappropriate things.

If that is true then posting it holds no risk for you, but it does seem odd that there is no CASA/NTSB investigation current.

Should not be hard to find the 2 x R44s that where written off within 10kms of Cairns Airport, bit harder to find will be the Long Ranger in PNG.
Then if you find those, and you’re still keen to find more I will give you more clues.

Anyone recall an accident below the summit of Mt Kegam many years ago, a Bell 206 with to many drums in the net, ran out off puff short of the pad?

It was an Australian registered helicopter, apparently not associated with a PNG AOC holder.

Only "Bell 206" type with VH- registration that is listed on ASN Wikibase as having had an accident in PNG is VH-SHA, a 206L in Feb 2010. Description, while scant, fits the bill: https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/169510

I was surprised the ASN wikibase doesn't list more VH- registered Bell losses in PNG aside from a few Bell 47's. P2- prefix was used from 1974 onwards.

This accident may not even be related to anything mentioned in this thread. I heard about it from a Mt Hagen based pilot.

Lots of weird stuff has happened in PNG over the years, both in fixed and rotary wing. Not sure why the reports aren’t available online, probably to early before internet and social media ramped up. Lots of accidents that I’m aware of that aren’t available online.

I doubt anything weird or unusual would go undetected these days in PNG, particularly with ADS-B, social media and internet in most places now.

Don’t shoot me down in flames BigMike as they may be different incidents, but as far as I know the two separate AOC holders have been directly involved in all incidents involved in these posts….

The ATSB investigation into the loss of VH-VHC was discontinued on 13 Dec 24: https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications...rt/ao-2024-012

With the JetRanger having sunk and not been recovered, would have made further investigation of cause of the engine failure difficult.
