There are enough pubs in Kununurra to get on the juice, trust me I once lived there. It’s also not a bad place to live, lots of water, good fishing and plenty of things to see in the region. Only downside side in my opinion is that it can get a little too hot at times during the build up, although it’s manageable and I would go back there and live if I had to.

BACKGROUND OF YORKSHIRE AIR AMBULANCE

Not everyone realises that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance relies solely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help save lives across your region. In fact, as an independent Charity we only receive help through secondment of the paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust. We need to raise £12,000 per day to keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances and highly-trained crew in the air. This is the equivalent of £4.4M every single year.

As a rapid response lifesaving emergency service, our air ambulances serve a population of five million people across four million acres. Our two Airbus H145 helicopters operate from Nostell Priory near Wakefield in West Yorkshire and RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk in North Yorkshire, covering the whole of Yorkshire seven days a week, 365 days per year. Flying with NVIS commenced in the summer of 2017 and extends the hours of operation from between 0600 to 2400.

Wherever the air ambulance lands at the scene of an accident, it is a maximum of 20 minutes from a Major Trauma Centre for the patient’s injuries or illness.

Over 7,900 patients’ lives have been changed by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance since the Charity began in October 2000.

JOB ROLE

The structure of the YAA is unusual in so far as we do not have a Chief Executive. The Trustee Board consists of 10 Trustees with different skill sets and expertise that they bring to the Charity. The Chairman is Peter Sunderland MBE, DL and the Vice Chair is Brian Chapman. The Board is very commercially focussed and has a broad spectrum of skills.

Day to day running of the Charity falls under the control of departmental Directors who form our Senior Management Team (SMT). Six SMT members are responsible for the business activity departments of Fundraising, Finance, Marketing & Communications, Operations, and Aviation. We are seeking to recruit a Line Pilot to join our team who, under the direction of a Chief Pilot, will be responsible for the command and operation of one of our Airbus H145 helicopters. Unlike most other air ambulances in the UK, we directly employ pilots to fly the helicopters under our own Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

Operating hours throughout the year are from 6am to midnight with a double shift at our primary airbase from Nostell Priory, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire. We also have a secondary base at RAF Topcliffe, near Thirsk which operates on a 3 on / 3 off, 12 hour shift from 7am till 7pm each day. The successful candidate will be employed at our Nostell base.

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Line Pilot
LOCATION: Nostell ASU, Foulby, near Wakefield, with infrequent duties from RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk.
REPORTING TO: Chief Pilot
HOURS: Three-on / three-off roster, with a variable nine-hour shift to cover the operational period between 0600 and 2400 Occasional variations to this pattern may be requested, but duty time will never be more than as permitted under the approved FTL scheme
ADDITIONAL INFO: Extra duties may sometimes be requested to provide cover for unforeseen sickness and holiday relief. Whenever these shifts increase work hours beyond the usual rostered FDP per six-week period, TOIL will be granted or additional payments made. Suitable accommodation is provided FOC by the Charity at both air bases to manage fatigue, but it is anticipated that the successful candidate shall be willing to relocate to Yorkshire.
HOLIDAYS: 22 plus 8 in lieu of statutory/public holidays. A percentage of the holiday entitlement will be pre-booked in order to manage the roster, and a proportionate number of weekends and bank holidays are rostered as duty days.
JOB PURPOSE: To carry out line flying duties as required by the Yorkshire Air
Ambulance

Main Duties:
 As aircraft commander, to ensure all flying tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the Charity’s Operations Manual, in addition to any regulations as laid down by the Air Navigation Order and/or EASA as amended by legislation.
 Ensure that, during periods of duty, you manage and organise the Operating Base in an effective manner; briefing crews on their HEMS responsibilities and maintaining the high personal and professional standards expected from any employee of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
 To ensure personal currency in all respects with regard to Flight Crew Licence, Aircrew Medical, Licence Proficiency Check (LPC), Operator Proficiency Check (OPC), Line Check, Emergency & Safety Equipment Check (E&SE) and other checks as required by the regulations before carrying out any flight on behalf of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
 You may on occasion be required to carry out duties of a different nature either in addition to, or instead of, your normal duties. You will not be assigned duties or asked to perform services which it is believed are unreasonable or you cannot reasonably perform, or which are inconsistent with the position you hold.

Knowledge and Experience required:
Essential
 Either a current ATPL(H) or CPL(H) with Instrument Rating
 A minimum of 1500 hours as pilot-in-command of aircraft
 A minimum of 500 hours as pilot-in-command of helicopters gained VMC overland with significant low flying experience
 40 hours VFR at night as pilot in command
 Lives in, or prepared to relocate to the Yorkshire region
 Fluent English, driving licence, passport, right to work in the UK.

 Previous experience in a similar role
 H145 type rating
 NVIS experience
 Training qualification

I could possibly be the only Pom that has ever flown out of Kununurra so I was ragging the place a bit. As you say it is quite civilised.

We operate from locations in NSW, northern WA and the Top End of the NT. The role

Reporting to the Head of Flying Operations, we currently have an opportunity for a Rotary Wing (RW) Fleet Manager to join our team based in Sydney. We are looking for someone to act as a mentor and to provide support to our crews whilst setting the required standards pertaining to our RW Fleet.



The role consists of safety, regulatory compliance, day-to-day operations, policy and procedure design and development, leadership of flight crews and departmental documentation. Key responsibilities include:

preparation of regular flight operations reports for the Head of Flying Operations (HOFO) and Director of Engineering;
providing accurate and timely advice to the HOFO for any matter that may affect the safety and efficiency of the organisation;
providing technical advice in the evaluation of equipment, new and emerging technologies and proposed fleet changes;
working with the Head of Training and Checking (HOTAC) and Part 142 Head of Operations (HOO) to ensure that the crew are trained to meet the set standard;
analysing data and providing accurate and reliable advice/ recommendations to the HOFO;
ensuring that the fleet is sufficiently resourced with qualified crew and that regulatory and contractual obligations are met;
working with Human Resources and the Senior Base Pilots to resolve any Work Rule, EBA or performance issues related to the fleet; and
striving to continually improve the safety and efficiency of the operation.



About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

Tertiary qualification in Management (highly desirable) with previous experience in an aviation management role.
Demonstrated experience with operational, business and budget planning processes to support organisational objectives.
Detailed understanding and knowledge of safety principles, aircraft operating systems and processes, Australian Aviation legislation, regulations and compliance requirements.
An ability to analyse, interpret and report on changes to aircraft requirements and its impact on Fleet Operation.
Demonstrated experience analysing data in many forms.
An ability to effectively manage multiple demands in a high volume and rapidly changing environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Extensive experience in an EMS/ SAR role.
CASA issued ATPL (H).
Current Class 1 Medical.
2500 hours helicopter command.
500 hours multi-engine helicopter command.
AW139 Type Rating.
Instrument Rating multi-engine helicopter.
NVIS Rating.

Responsible for performing duties as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Functional Check Pilots (FCP) in UH-72A series aircraft in CONUS/OCONUS locations. Helicentre Aviation is a large provider of professional pilots to industry, offering exciting career development opportunities for Helicopter Flight Instructors, with typical fast progression into other industry roles. We require applicants for positions within the ATO (Approved Training Organisation) to demonstrate a range of positive behaviours and attitudes, as well as a high level of knowledge and skill. Our selection process is designed to identify these qualities and assess applicants against the required competencies.Positions may be part-time, full-time, contracted or salaried according to suitability, experience, availability and demand. Applicants who are appropriately qualified and experienced, and therefore more versatile may be offered a position which encompasses a variety of roles and even crosses over into CAT (Commercial Air Transport) and SPO (Specialised Operations) duties including charter and pipeline roles.Pilots who are not yet qualified as Flight Instructors or who do not hold the appropriate type ratings may still apply, since all professional courses including ATPL(H)/IR theory CPL(H), FI(H) and type ratings can be provided in-house at a competitive price (in some cases subsidised, sponsored or fully-funded). Applicants must be prepared to finance their own training to be considered for a position, however, a conditional offer of work can be provided to the successful applicant following their interview.Newly qualified Flight Instructors will be guided through their supervisory restriction period and provided with standardisation training and support to allow rapid progression onto positions with greater responsibility.

Minimum Requirements for Qualified Applicants
Applicants must hold an EASA CPL(H) or ATPL(H) and a Flight Instructor (Helicopter) Certificate with Part FCL.905.FI (a) and (b) privileges. FCL.905.FI (d) and (e) privileges would be advantageous. As a minimum, applicants must have experience in delivering training for the PPL(H) course in the United Kingdom. Standardisation training will be provided to suitable applicants.Applicants who have been standardised to instruct for the issue of a CPL(H) at another UK ATO, or who hold an FE(H) Certificate will be considered for a more senior role, and company standardisation training will be provided.Newly qualified FI’s who have minimal or no experience and who did not obtain their FI(H) Certificate at Helicentre Aviation’s ATO may be required to undertake an FI(H) standardisation seminar with our FIE and/or refresher training with an FIC, however this will be notified on successful completion of an interview / competency-based assessment.All applicants must hold a Cabri G2 type rating or be prepared to obtain a Cabri G2 rating and the required hours to provide instruction on the type. An R44 type rating would be advantageous.

Minimum Requirements for Non-Qualified Applicants
New flight instructors are required at Helicentre Aviation on an ongoing basis to meet demand for training new and already qualified pilots in a very busy training environment. Annual flight training hours are in the region of 6,000 from our base at Leicester Airport (this excludes CAT and Utility operations). Typically we recruit a significant number of entry-level instructors each year to replace those moving up into other roles within the company or progressing onto other roles in industry.Applicants must hold a CPL(H) or PPL(H) with CPL(H) or ATPL(H) theoretical knowledge and meet the pre-requisites to commence a Flight Instructor Course at Leicester in January, April or September 2019 lasting six to eight weeks on a full-time basis.Applicants must be able to finance their own training in the Cabri G2. A conditional offer of work will be provided upon successful completion of an interview and prior to commencing training, and a full-time position as an FI(H) restricted will be offered after successful completion of training, subject to an initial three-month probationary period.

About the FI(H) Role
The FI(H) role, whilst predominantly delivering private and professional flight training, will include other forms of ground and flight instruction and/or other commercial and non-commercial operations according to experience, qualifications and company requirements. This will range from check flights to refresher training for existing licence holders, flying as safety pilot, accompanying students on hour building trips within the UK and Europe, and subject to qualifications and experience, undertaking some UK-based Commercial Air Transport or Utility work.Flight Instructors typically progress onto more advanced flying roles including utility (pipeline survey) within the company in a relatively short timescale, and there may also be long-term opportunities within the training environment such as being promoted to a nominated company or EASA postholder position, or being sponsored through additional ratings and qualifications such as FE(H) or TRE(H).

Full-Time / Contracted Salary Bands
  • Entry Level FI(H) (Restricted) with Cabri G2 and R44 Ratings: £20,000 p.a.
