And no....Captains are NOT triple that. Only if you work in Libya or Yemen and that's if they decide to pay you the extra allowance .

work at Gulf Helicopters

I see Gulf Helicopters are looking for licenced engineers. I have seen the website and a bit of info given there.

What is Qatar like for a place to work in comparison with Abu Dhabi.

The advert says shared accommodation and transport to work supplied. Whats the accommodation, passable? The transport is it bus, or shared cars?

Food, is it buy your own at grabbed opportunities as per ADA and cook it yourself (often ended up eating from a tin of baked beans in the past!)

Any info much appreciated.

Hey piggybank, didn’t you have your fill of the sandpit when you were shafted at ADA? Why go back?

The Sand Pit

Saint Jack

St Jack, looks like we must know each other.

I do like the sand pit. I first got there at age 20. Mind you Asia is OK too.

My work here is good, but the trip home is 30 hours along with hanging round airports. It’s on SQ so they do feed me meals and lemonade. I think it wise to always have at least one other job available and it’s easier to get a job when you have a job. Job security and aviation should not be muttered in the same breath.

I do get peeved off with tax, my tax is 60% of what Gulf pay in salary. I do not like paying tax when I get nothing back for it.

I really fancy working on something bigger than 212’s. 139 would be of great interest. S92 and Puma and such. Helicopters that have had a bit of thought put into their design.

It may be argued the 139 has faults, but it won’t always be that way.

I am planning to work a few more years yet, as long as the Zimmer frame will get me round the helicopter, I’ll be alright.

Work at Gulf Helicopters

Piggybank... I cannot speak for Abu Dhabi and I only visit Doha occasionally but I can tell you about single accommodation there.

Much depends on who you share the villas with.

The accommodation for single engineers is in shared 4 bed villas . GH have around a dozen villas in a complex called Oasis Villas which is about 15 / 20 minutes from the GH Heliport depending on traffic.

It has a pool and a gym if you feel so inclined. TV is provided but satellite coverage seems to vary from villa to villa as does internet connection.

Foodwise you have a kitchen with fridge space for your own stuff and a couple of decent supermarkets just over the road if you want to cook for yourself.

There are a couple of cafes over the road as well for the usual burgers or the like. All the takeaway pizza houses know the compound and will deliver. You have a houseboy to do your cleaning, washing and washing up.

Transport is by company minibus or if you get to know those with transport you can always cadge a lift . You really need your own transport to get to downtown Doha but taxis are reasonably cheap.

Alcohol is available in the compound but Doha is not exactly exciting for a wild night out......

Why would you bother to ask that question on here?-in the time you took to post that question, you could have emailed the Chief Pilot of Gulf Helicopters and asked him!-then you would have the answer from the horse's mouth-so to speak!
