How predictably small
Since I started this threat I have stood on the sidelines and watched and read and listened to all and have had a good chuckle along the way. But here is the straight goods. As of today Dec 29, 2008 rumours aside, he said she said, etc etc etc, there has been absolutely nothing said to any of the employees that at least fly the line over here in Thailand about anything. This to me is really how small CHC Thailand Management and YVR must think of us, the little guys (and girls) that work in the trenches.
Were all just minions at the whim of management to do what they please with and they wonder why people leave Thailand, no its not the greatest place to work, $40.00 per diem Canadian per day, hell they were getting $25.00 US twenty years ago and HO just figures, hell I don't know what they figure. BC promised new per diems on par with Canadian Gov't rates during his last visit here. MY MY MY how talk is cheap.
Still absolutely not one word from Management about Chevron of any type and the contract ends in two days. Well you know what they say about mushrooms.

You must remember it is the festive season, and although there are some of us in the threnches, management are enjoying blissfull holidays with family and friends. Does the following look familiar?
"Unfortunately I will be out of the office until $% Jan 09. Any urgent matters please contact blah blah blah........"
A well informed friend once noted:

Hence empty management offices over this time of year.
........and we will definately have an answer in two weeks.......promise..... ..no genuine........trust me.........come on...........ye right!

Second 76 C++ has arrived BKK, will be ferried to Songkhla next week to join HTP already here. 3rd C++ will arrive BKK shortly. May be a bit of a delay on the 4th ship. HTC (S61) to depart on or about 15 Feb.

I don't know about you, by I get my "thanks" on the 15th and the 30 of every month. That's what I expect from them, nothing more, nothing less. Also, you don't matter. If they could train monkeys to fly and fix these things they would. (actually told to me by Eddy Aman at Bow Copters many many moons ago)
You (and me) are considered a necessary evil of making money.
Drive the bus, come home safe, collect your pay, go to the darkside......repeat as nessasary

I can see you point but disagree. If they could make us work without pay, but paid us anyways then that would be thanks indeed.

If we as employees are a necessary evil for making the company money, then so be it. However, I look at the company (any helicopter company for that matter) as merely a resource for me to exploit to my maximum advantage.
I know it goes both ways, but I prefer to think of the company as a host, with me being the virus. I get as much out of them as I can and when there's nothing further to be gained by staying there, I move on.

Chevron win
I am afraid that if CHC has actually won this it was probably done by giving up any future wage increases for the crews or any anticipated perks. Chevron wins here!

The second set of hearings just concluded in the beginning of December. The Canadian Industrial Relations Board has heard CHC’s second major objection to the GHPA’s application for certification. CHC claims it is not the true employer of its pilots working around the world, yet they are being paid and administratively handled through their office in Richmond, Canada! There are a myriad of other arguments with respect to CHC’s stance and all were argued at the hearings accordingly. The hearings lasted for a total of six days and the results of the hearings are expected to be passed down by the end of February. CHC has vowed to oppose any hearing in favor of the GHPA, as one might expect, and the struggle will continue to the next level in two months time. I hope that this helps.

Does anyone besides just me find the latest epistle coming out of the Glass House in Richmond to be more than a little curious in its timing??? On 14 Jan., BC wrote, "Among other strong commercial opportunities globally, we are anticipating successful contract award from Chevron Thailand at the end of this month...."
So now we are "anticipating" being awarded the contract. Hmm, interesting. Next door, Si Chang are also telling their people they are "anticipating" being awarded the contract. Call me a cynic, but use of the word "anticipating", especially at this late stage of the game, sounds more like "we really have no idea yet if we're getting the contract, but we're hopeful." So what are we to make of it should the end of the month roll around without any announcement of who's been awarded the contract? The only reason I even make that statement is that we keep hearing "it'll be signed next week" or something similar to that. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty sure I can recognise a trend when I see one and quite frankly, the trend I'm seeing so far is not exactly inspiring me with confidence. I suppose on the flipside, if the end of the month does roll around, accompanied by the formal announcement that TAS has been awarded the contract, we'll all sleep much more soundly.
I appreciate that a company, any company, really cannot or should not make a formal announcement of a contract being awarded before it's truly a done deal, but seriously, is this the best they can do???

Platong King, your sense of loyalty is commendable. If your only objective is to continue to work in Thailand, why would you give a rat's a-- who you work for? After all, the work is not going to disappear, and Si Chang is going to need qualified pilots to service the contract as much as CHC. Y'all seem pretty happy slamming CHC, so shouldn't you prefer someone else to get the contract and then simply go work for them? This is your big chance to get out from under the dark hummingbird. Or does Si Chang hire only Thai's and CHC only expats?

The points you raise are indeed valid, especially to those who have a much more vested interest in CHC winning the contract than I do. I'm afraid my loyalty to any company only goes as far as the loyalty they're willing to extend to me, and we all know how THAT goes.

Funny thing, that. Not so long ago there was a missive from on high saying that we did indeed have the contract despite any thoughts/rumours/ideas to the contrary.
Still, a job's a job and as long as the salary comes in on time..................
