Be careful landing at the Priory Bay, Isle of Wight.

I agreed £50 for the weekend landing next to their pitch and putt course ....was then asked to move on Sat afternoon which i couldnt due to too much vino .....turned up Sunday , as agreed , and they had clamped my heli and demanded £150 to take the clamp off
Luckily i found a way to escape ....but be aware !!!!!!!!!!!

ps i wouldnt eat there either if you know whats good for you ...

Has anyone made a wbsite yet with all these sites on, ?
I see the griffin one, whic would have been great if it was kept up to date,
Landing sites book, google, flyers Heli sites, griffin.....
I suppose if you look hard enough You can find somewhere
Would be easier if they were all on one site ....

Anyone know of one ?

Not that I am aware of...

.. Gary, who runs Griffin Helicopters, is a little busy at the moment with work stuff, so not surprising it's a little out of date.

However I have been looking for a little project to do in order to try and test out some new technology... this could be it. I'll have a look see this week.

Helipads etc

Added - Just looked at Griffin and obviously there is a head start on your needs, although the functionality for the community adding the LZ and editing comments etc might be useful .If he's busy like myself flying etc, perhaps he just hasn't gotten to it yet.

I had a thread here which I had just started and noticed yours.

You may want to see my beta site
This does pretty much what you are looking for, allowing the addition of LZ's, to which you can add textual comments and other info, as well as being able to annotate the LZ with comments such as hazards etc. All info is presented in a google map and if bases were known, it would show the relative position to the LZ.

For example I added Elvetham hotel and Priory Bay. In location you can start typing the name of the LZ (hotel) and it brings up lists of known LZ's or in location enter coordinates, address or just a Post code eg. RG27 8AS and press radar where it will look for any LZ's bases in the immediate area.

Comments, LZ's are editable and therefore maintained by the user community, but available to all. There is a help file which shows a lot of different functionality which probably will not be of any interest for such use but it should work for a central LZ repository. I could even add a different marker type specifically for hotel/restaurant type LZ's.

Feed back is welcome and for best use, use the latest browsers as under 'best viewed with'. Safari will always work best but firefox and the latest explorer should be fine too.

PM or post with any comments.

Hotel or LZ between Luton and Norwich

Anyone know any good value hotels that allow free landing between Luton and Norwich?

There must be a few about but a bit of local knowledge might help!

TIA

Landing between Luton & Norwich?

I can't personally recommend and hotels to land at in that area but if you need the service I have plenty of space here to land in just 12 miles south of Luton (1 mile from Panshanger which no longer takes Helo's ) which any PPruners are welcome to use for free by PPR.

3 miles by taxi (a quick lift by car if I'm here) gets you to Hatfield rail station on the Kings Cross mainline.

PM me if you need it.

Ian.

Horsted place near Uckfield has plenty of room for helicopters as well, and do not charge a landing fee if you are having lunch, afternoon tea, or dinner there.
they do require you to PPR first.

Try this UK Helicopter sites (PPRuNe) - Google Maps

Its a google overlay with private landing sites, there appears to be one called Peter's (private site) not a million miles away from where you want.

Cheers,

HC

Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay, near Bath

Hi All

Just visited this very nice gastro-pub today.

The Wheatsheaf Combe Hay, Bath, UK - Restaurant & Rooms

Easy to find, nicely marked out H on flat ground behind the car park and decent approach from most directions. Trees on West quite high thats all.

Very friendly reception from owner who was keen on visiting helicopters. No landing fee and a very nice lunch.

Highly recommended for a visit.

Cheers

Excellent Lunch Cavendish Hotel

Hi All,

Just had a great day out and lunch at the Cavendish Hotel. Really nice food in a great location. Approach from the south and do not overfly the village tucked up in a nice valley and fantastic scenery for the pax. The website is The Cavendish Hotel | Baslow | Chatsworth Estate | Derbyshire Peak District no landing charge and a nice welcome as such a big PPR then no need after your first visit.

Try the "Best Western" chain. Quite a few of them allow you to land. Phone the hotels direct, as they sometimes don't advertise the fact that they allow helis.

Try the following map.

Places To Go - Yorkshire Heli Club

First three below are on the map above;

Kings Croft Hotel, Pontefract - a great little place, very friendly and they don't rip us Yorkshire folk off!

Hazelwood Castle, Tadcaster (recently removed a massive bush from middle of landing area)

Woodhall Hotel, Linton, Wetherby (make sure your sloping ground is up to speed!

Also;

Middlethorpe Hall (York) but they did start charging (always worth asking) and not the best approach.

Holiday Inn, Garforth used to allow Helis but not sure if they still do.

Quality Hotel, Selby Fork.

Squires Milkbar, Sherburn - allow you to camp!

If you need anymore info then email me through the heliclub website (I rarely check PMs).

Regards, MB

Ian (or anyone else), do you know who operates the helipad by Mosquito Way on the old Hatfield airfield site? I would like to pop in there soon.
I hope you enjoyed our helicopter Mr. Eldridge.

In answer to my own question here is the response from the site operator:
Hi Mark
Thank you for your email, unfortunately the helicopter pad is for business use only by park occupiers.

Apologies I cannot be of more assistance.

If anyone out there has the need, contact details are here Site Team | Hatfield Business Park
