My personal favourites (other than those already mentioned):

The Crab at Chieveley - Award Winning UK Seafood Restaurant and Famous Room Hotel Accommodation - nice fishy restaurant near Newbury

Luxury Family Hotels In Suffolk : Ickworth - part of Von Essen group, but a family-orientated place.

No landing fees at either last time I went, a big from me for that

Lake Vyrnwy hotel

Aucky - really like your Google Map. It would have been a great help to me when I was trying to find new places to go with my son while he was doing his CPL hours building.

An update on Vyrnwy Hotel for your site - its free, and there is parking for up to four helicopters. PPO advised and at the same time good idea to ask them to check the windsock is not tangled up! Good bar lunches on the outside balcony looking over the lake.

Old and Horrified - Thanks for the info

For anyone that would like to be able to use the map effectively on an iPhone the is an app called 'My Maps Editor' that is free and seems to do the job prefectly on the go....

Simply open the program > find 'add online map' > paste in

"http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?client=safari&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&hl=en&t=h&msa=0&msid=214241328482245004113.0004a21 2f5e998da47dc0&ll=53.566414,-2.15332&spn=7.24528,18.918457&z=6"

et voila

Within the app you can call the location, visit the website and browse as you wish... I'm sure there is similar for the iPad but I haven't looked just yet.

I have added all the locations I have found mentioned on PPRuNe so far, btu will continue to add any more suggestions that are made. If anyone has any more info on any of the HLS's that are included please pass it on, and if you find any discrepancies/oddities please let me know.

Cheers, Aucky

Hi Aucky,
That looks a great app, however I cannot load a map using that link even with the quotation marks removed. Any ideas?

HeliTed - Appologies, it was a bad link, i have edited it now, but just incase it is "http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?client=safari&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&hl=en&t=h&msa=0&msid=214241328482245004113.0004a21 2f5e998da47dc0&ll=53.566414,-2.15332&spn=7.24528,18.918457&z=6"

Cheers

Appologies if the links listed above have not been working... I have found a way to shorten the link and make it more reliable. The following link should work in both the web browser and the 'my maps editor' iPhone app.

"http://goo.gl/maps/3ymt" (remove the quotation marks once pasted into the iPhone app or it will say 'failed to load the page')

Thanks, Aucky

Aucky - top job my man, AWESOME!!!

I hadn't realised one could share specific sites on a public 'layer'. I have a list of .kmzs on my own google earth installation; how do i get these into the public PPRuNe version?

TTB - Thanks, thats a good question, not something I have tried to do but if you like you could email the .kmz files to me and I will have a look at the best way to transfer them over, it will i'm sure be doable but probably not a simple case of 'drag and drop' unfortunately. My email is [email protected]

Cheers, Aucky

Aucky,

Thanks for that, I'm all up and running now.

Another one for you (in Lancashire) - fine food, good service, nice surroundings and no landing fee.

update - I have removed the (0) from the all of the phone numbers listed so that the iPhone app dials them correctly (and added the mentioned locations).... Be sure to refresh the list within the app from time to time (takes 5 seconds) to display the most recent sites/data

Sure, thats no problem at all if people are happy to send me the details... I will use an alternative icon to differentiate them if the site is private and has no facilities...

Another rip-off

Draycote Hotel and Whitefields Golf Course, Rugby, Warwickshire

I am going to a meeting at this hotel next week and asked if they had a helipad. They replied that they did and wanted £500 landing fee for my R22 so I will go by car.

Hotel landing sites - no charge.

We don't have a charge to land helicopters here at The Elvetham in Hampshire.

If you want any further information contact me, Susan Thompson at The Elvetham. Here is a link to the website directions - at the bottom of the page is the site co-ordinates...
