The Barn (Cheshire)
Folks
Just been to The Barn restaurant in Cheshire today. It's a fantastic restaurant and very heli friendly. It's just inside the southern edge of Liverpools CTR and there is realistically only room for one heli but that shouldnt be a problem.
Food is fantastic.
Ive written about it on my blog here.
Co-ordinates are 53.14.07N, 002.49.61W (Grid reference SJ 452 712).

Izaak Walton Hotel
Just for info I got an email today asking me to remove the Isaak Walton from the Landing Sites on the Griffin site as they no longer have the facility to accept helicopters.

i have stayed at the the jarvis many many times and never been asked to pay i know there is a landing charge for non residents and its high but you can book a room there at times from £49, did you ask if there was a landing charge ?did you get permission to land there ? or did you just turn up as so many do and leave there helicopter there and got caught ?

Panshanger £50 Landing Fee
Has anyone else been asked to pay £50 to land an R22 at Panshanger?
Apparently it's because there have been 'issues' with helicopters, and the fee is reduced if you have been to a personal briefing at the aerodrome - but you're not allowed to fly in to get briefed without paying the £50! You have to drive in, or get there some other way!
If there are 'issues' then I fail to see how they can be dealt with by charging £50. If it is safety related, then a higher landing fee isn't going to fix it. If it's not safety (e.g;. noise abatement), then isn't that what pooleys etc is for?
I've only ever been there 3 times, and each time has had different stupid things happen. It's so much easier not to bother with them when North Weald/Stapleford/Wycombe are just so friendly and helpful: I take my £1,500 per month fuel business somewhere else!

This has been around for a while. I wasn't sure whether they were still charging such outrageous fees, but I guess they are (I've not been in there for some years now).
Vote with your feet, say I.

Chaps,
I agree, don't go.
I'm pleased to say most of the places I go are sensible when it comes to Helicopters but there are a few that take (or try to take) the proverbial.

Does anyone know of a landing site close to Shrewsbury which can accept an AS355 or slightly bigger?
Not EGOS, need somewhere closer to the town centre if possible (besides, last time I asked there they weren't accepting visitors for 2 years due to major gound works).

Shytorque have you tried Albright Hussey

I've been in a few times, last time they had put something permanently where they used to get you to land, but they will have a word with the farmer next door and you can land there for £50 or so.

No fee helipad
Try the Faenol Fawr hotel next to the Bodelwyddan hospital in North Wales.
It is a lovely old hotel and the owner is leaning to fly the R44.
No landing fees but, you pay for your own coffee.
They do a nice lunch or dinner at a reasonable price.
53°16'30.47"N 3°29'54.11"W on Google Earth.
The helipad is a grassed area adjacent to the carpark and hospital helipad.

The Church Inn Uppermill in Saddleworth.
Nice country pub near Dovestones VRP (MAN)
Good food, No landing fee just a quick call to make sure the garden is clear.
