The 'spot turn' on ground looks like someone rushed it to save some fuel/engine running dosh.

Forgive me, lowly R22 pilot, but if he had such forward CG in hover, wouldn't he have low enough fuel in tanks to have better IGE performance, not to hover left skid so close to ground? Then trying to speed up so quickly so low.. Oopsy.

True, the CPL guy next to him should have asked him to hover higher and be more gentle on take off. Was the low time pilot owner or related to owner by any chance, that the CPL guy kept quiet or didn't try to be heavy on controls?

What an appalling, unforgivable example of incompetent flight crew action. Fortunately no-one was presumably hurt, but another circa $500k or aircraft trashed with the inevitable impact on insurance premiums and helicopter safety reputation. A wobbly approach and poor landing were all signs of a pilot well beyond his skill level, but the the CPL P2 apparently then lets him yaw the acft hugely on the ground before take off, lift and transition too fast and just drive it into the ground. What on earth was the CPL P2 thinking of? And they'd had at least one kid on board too! Unbelievable. I just hope UK insurance premiums are not affected by the German market, thinking of the EC120 too.....

This made me chuckle - no 500' rule in Montreal? (back then anyway?)

after several years of breathing our, beautiful city air, at chimney top level, my lungs started to… take a little punishment
- nothing to do with the pipe...

Some videos near the North Pole from Ellesmere Island high up in the Arctic.

This waterfall had a geyser feeding it coming straight up out of the glacier.
The wolves were very curious and this happened on a few occasion. We had to land before the wolves reached us and made sure the tail was clear hanging off a cliff or steep hill.

Have a little too much spare time, and camera to hand out here in Billund...

p.s. Senior Pilot - Vimeo used to embed... No longer? I don't use youtube where possible as everything defaults to 360p which looks terrible in comparison

Fixed: just cut and paste the url off the Vimeo

ROTORHEADS AROUND THE WORLD: Videos

For the inpatient, start watching around 3:15...
And, doesn't seem to bother the pilot very much, after a short hover he transitions away....
Worth thinking about damage which might have occured.

What ground resonance...?
That's the new design in hydraulic pumping to get a heaving machine airborne by bouncing it up into the air...kind of like a spring loading...
Notice how the aircraft jumps into the air once activated.

So what suddenly kicked this off (after sitting on the ground for 3.5 minutes)?
