Yes, I was disappointed you didn't go on Sunday evening. I was between Woodvale and Staverton when you arrived, and working nights over the weekend. Thought that when I came in Sunday night that I'd get to hear the noise, but sadly not.

PS: I hear you made good use of our shower!

Thumbs up UK Huey

There were alot of disappointed people we couldn't fly out on Sunday.

We did make use of your facilities and your guys made us most welcome, it helped us face the day refreshed. Thank them again if you would.

Detling - Rochester

Miss Jo may be in Redhill on the 20th August. Will be at Military Odyssey at Detling in Kent for the bank holiday weekend.

Would really like to watch you fly in if you get a chance to post an appx eta, I am based at EGTO Rochester which is the nearest airfiled and I am sure they would be delighted to see you if you need any fuel ?

Miss Jo - Rochester

Friday afternoon - just about to depart Rochester and wow - in comes Miss Jo - what a sight.

After a quick local in the trusty Hiller we come back to admire, drool at the ship and chat with the crew who were very friendly...

To hear her run up and depart was pure joy, the rumour is flight training will be available and I for one will have a few hours I hope.

If anyone is local to Rochester she is at Detling showground this bank holiday weekend.

Thumbs up Uk Huey Miss Jo

Unfortunately I couldn't make it down to Detling, so the old G-Huey team held the fort.

Miss Jo heading out to the Jersey Air Show next week. Flying over earlier in the week to make sure we don't get could out with the weather. Will be static one day and on show day she will be flying.

More details of what's going on on the Jersey Air Show site.

Congratulations to Phil Connolly made a Freeman of Guild of Air Pilots

Post from Flying Lawyer elsewhere on PPrune:
Display pilots in the news
......... or they will be when next month's Guild News comes out.
Some pilots who will be well-known in this forum, some of them Ppruners, were elected to the Guild of Air Pilots last week.

Upper Freeman (Professional pilots)
Mark Linney
John Romaine
John ('JT') Taylor
Brendan O’Brien

Freeman (PPLs)
Phil Connolly
Phil isn't as well known as the others. He imported an ex-Vietnam Huey from America and, with enormous assistance from two PPRuNe regulars, SASless and IdleStop, eventually cut through a lot of red tape to get it onto the display circuit - and was granted a DA himself.

Huey 509 on tv

thought you might be interested that the visit of three American vets to see Huey 509 is being featured this Friday on Inside Out in the North West. If you don't live in the region but have Sky then you can see it on channel 978 - BBC 1 N West.

It might make national coverage depending on the news of the day.

don't forget bbc one tonight at 7.30

As previously mentioned on our website, Huey is no stranger to TV appearances so for those who live in the North West of England, or for Sky viewers channel 978 - BBC 1 N West, the latest appearance is about to be broadcast. May be worth checking youtube aswell.

BBC1's regional current affairs programme ‘ Inside Out ‘ will be featuring Huey on Friday 9th February 2007 at 7:30pm so if you are not going to be in, set your videos to record!

If you visit www.huey.co.uk you'll find the front page pictures are of the Americans visit.

H1HU,
Absolutely Grand!

Phil certainly deserves praise after everything he went through to achieve his goal.

Yesterday, I met two guys I flew with in Vietnam. We had not been in contact since 1970. We talked of old times and the experiences we shared. Naturally, we talked of friends lost and I told them about Phil's Huey and the names on the doors. They each confirmed how fitting that is.

Then I get home and watch the video. I had to do a go-around too.

The sight of those guys in the Huey and knowing the names were there on the doors....that is a wonderful thing Phil has done. I offer my thanks to you as well for all the effort you have done in assisting Phil.

I feel quite fortunate to have been able to be a part of that.

Poem about Huey 509 'Miss Jo'

Fred Alvis one of the three American to visit the UK to be re-united with one of the 129th's old birds has put pen to paper and written this poem about the re-union
In the air,
was a great green bird.
We watched it approach,
no-one said a word.
Flash back,
to 1972.
Flash back,
our years were so few.
Oh ye great green dragon,
savior from the skies.
Death from above,
was our cry.
Sounds of the blade,
echos thru our mind.
old warriors,
decending dragon finds.
Hearts beat loudly,
eyes have tears.
echos of the blades,
transend the years.
warriors we were,
we stood before the beast.
warriors we remain,
in the hearts at least.
one green dragon,
509 still flies high.
death from above ,
was her cry.
bullet holes,
blood in her past.
healing wounds now,
shes a fine lass.
dragon from the sky,
KIAs on her side.
A proud war bird,
nothing to hide.
young men died,
flying on this bird.
fighting for peace,
was the word.
Old men,
with tears in their eyes.
watched her approach,
waiting to say their good byes..

thanks Phil,Rob,Simon,Neil and Bradley
