And don't forget those Jumpers Leads from the Cruiser to the 47.....must buy a new battery next year.

And the difference between the 47 and that plastic 22....you cant haul home a side of beef on each side of a 22....

I dont see any other Tour Toads speaking up so here is an idea from the Highest paying company in La$ Vega$. The rest are very close.
As a part timer(me) its $100/day to show up, then $35-45 per flight depending on the route. A full day is four flights to the Ditch ( about 6 logged hours in a fourteen hour work day), maybe five in Summer. So about $280-325 max. You can work as many days as your want keeping in mind Part 135 Crew Rest. Plus, if their not SLF from the U.K.,one may be able to get some good gratuities....I will leave that to your imagination.

Its a fair cop though.....I don't think we've quite got this tipping thing sorted out yet, give us another 200 years eh!!

The figure is correct including the allowances which is still money in the hand though and would you believe that figure was a reduction to what he was previously on.

Not nice!! Sounds like a gripe from someone not qualified for the job. I know many of the UK guys and they are all well qualified and still current.

You have an IR? You a TRI? You have real management experience ? Flown anything other than VMC police or military?

OK, so far we have a Cattle rustler on a

low of: $30000AUD / yr which is the same as:
GBP: £13,000
US: $21,000
Euro: 19,000
HK$: $166,000

and a

Training Captain with the government services (SAR, I think?) on a

high of: = HK$1,800,000/yr ($150,000/month)
GBP:£140,000
AUS:$325,000
US:$233,000
Euro: 202,000


Anyone out there who actually earns less or more than this. No anecdotes, rumours, thanks, you have to actually be earning it?

I'll add mine to the mix. Flying Bell mediums, 30-40K CAD, working 6 wks on 1 wk off during the summer, 6 months off in the winter.

Mr Selfish Its 35-45 a Flight, not Flight hour. Flights are usually 1.4-1.6 flight hours.....

JAA CPL(H) with FI(H) flying all kind of stuff (aerial filming, vfr-offshore, vip-transportation,etc.) in HU30, B206, B407, BO105...
6 to 7 days a week for a Boss suffering from paranoia...
Ending up with € 48.000 to € 52.000 gross (if he pays the bonus this x-mas) resulting in € 26.000 after deductions (taxes, health insurance, etc.)

Well paid yes, but when the chips are down, they earn it.

In the Monetary repect your story above is similar to the states. Rates are paid living on the type of currency for the country. You cant compare AU Dollars to US or South African Rand. When in South Africa and flying the rates are pretty good in Rand, IF you are lving on the Rand etc......Dont expect to come to South Africa for Example and get rich enough to come to the States . The rate of exchange is about 7/1.
Other than that Fly what you need too and log what you have too.....ha ha

pay rates for pilots in Oz?

Hi! I know this is a really vague question and the rate will vary a lot between jobs, but can someone please give me a rough idea as to what the pay rate is for a pilot, say, in tourism, or what is a general rate for contract work, or charter work. I have just started my CPL(H) and although I am not doing it for the money it would be nice to know that I'm not going to struggle on $25K a year for the rest of my life!

I think being able to earn $25K in a couple of years is most optimistic.
It will take you a couple of years to get into that job and then they will not pay you 25K but mostly 20K to 24K, for the first two years.
Mustering boys are hooking into it at the second to third year of flying stage, but they are sleeping in a swag and working really hard.
First year cojoe at ESSO is more likely on $35K and the 3 - 5yr cojoe is $40K. I think the "Senior" copilot can get $50....if that possie still exists.

Airline affect upon Rotary pay

Numerous sources indicate that all the main airlines have a growing requirement for future pilots. Virgin have a requirement for a 600 cockpit seats to be filled.

With the traditional x-over of the down-at-heal heli pilot (complete with mortgage, ex-wives and kids) from the joys of chopper flying to the more reliable task of ferrying the bucket and spade brigade.........this must surely be good news for those of us left in the rotary world.

Or is there already a shortage of suitably experienced helo pilots?
Was asked if I could find a pilot for a short-notice, 5-day single squirrel job, and after much 'phoning around, had to return empty handed. All my contacts were already busy!!

So, who has seen this situation in the past; airlines recruiting, rotary pilots left to fill the increasing need for chopper jobs....pay/terms and conditions improving by necessary.
Will there be a day when rotary employers will need to actively recruit?
