The story as relayed to me by those involved....
Day before yesterday an S92 was onroute to Broome on a return flight from an offshore rig when a main Txmsm low oil pressure was noted, shortly afterwards remaining oil pressure ceased completely and a fairly rapid decent was carried out. From time of intial low px indication at 6000ft to touchdown was 8 minutes. The oil filter housing which apparently has 3 studs fastening it to the txmsn was hanging on by one which hadn't broken and most of the oil had been pumped out.
During the incident no overtemp indication occurred and a safe landing was carried out next to a homestead in the middle of nowhere 28 miles north of Broome.
Bristow came to the rescue with a trusty old Puma within 60 mins and the guys were taken on to Broome.
At this stage a Sikorsky rep will be onsite tomorrow with a boroscope to assess the viability of flying it the 28 miles back to Broome where the txmsn will most likely be pulled.
I hope I haven't upset anybody by 'spilling the beans' here and I hope that CHC get it all back on track soon, I know there is a wealth of experience amoungst those guys who both operate and maintain 'The Bus' and I am sure they are all grateful it didn't all happen a little earlier in the day.
We are lucky that the relationship between CHC and Bristow is very good here and assistance was quick and effortless.

How come you're not crowing about the 92 tranny in Oz
No run-dry capability, no ELS - and this is new technology?

You might want to read FAR29/CS29 and you will see there is a definition of a 30 min engine oil out certification test which 'another contributor' assures us Sikorsky have passed despite some questions on how the test was done.
Interesting if the design is being upgraded for the H92/CH148.
Does more conventional mean 'like the generation before last' as DECUFAULT refers?
crab
Erm can a Chinnok could lift a 92?

I see the EC225 uses Glycol injection for those moments when the oil wants to be somewhere else. The transmission is rated for 30 minutes while running this way and certainly requires the big stripdown not long after.
