Aaahh Bliss.
Finished standby for my day job at 1800, turned off the phone and by 1802 had the engine started on the Robbo. Half an hour of exploring the offshore islands of Hong Kong as dusk fell, then down Hong Kong harbour at 1,000 ft ten minutes after sunset.
Landed, washed the blades and a beer at the bar in the flying club by 19.30
It’s what life’s all about really…
Anybody else had a good day recently?

Saturday afternoon. Had asked nicely if I could go along on a 206 job with an experienced commercial pilot and instructor.
Got late notice the job was on, arrived 13:40, airborne 14:10, across the Salisbury Plain low level route to Warminster, into a field to pick up two pax, fly Stonehenge - Pewsey - Avebury - Devizes - Bath - Warminster, seeing lots of interesting things along the way AND the houses of my sister and parents, drop off back at the hotel, then back along the low level route to Thruxton for 16:00.
1.5 hours in the book, all for free, mucho learned along the way, and seeing the way helicopters SHOULD be operated !

Well, as I am getting more hours in helis than hours on B99's "low level encounters" these days I guess I better stick to bragging about the former.
Sad really

Had a Great Day about a Month a go with a new Commercial Pilot who wanted to see the Huntervalley, North of Sydney. Brand New R44 Raven II and a nice lunch, returning to Sydney via the Northen beaches of Sydney.

Doncaster to King's Lynn. Low level, low light, low cloud. Naff all to see except the slagheaps of what used to be our coal industry, nasty cheaply built badly planned towns, dreadful flat "countryside" which should really be the bed of the North Sea. Trip enlivened by big fields of daffodils and the tented accomodation of the poor imigrants forced to pick the flowers.
Then King's Lynn - the town where they should insert the enema in the UK.
Yeah. Great day. You smug b***ards.

Donny to Kings Lynn? You were lucky. We used to 'ave to walk it barefoot wi' ten sacks o' coal on our 'eads...
Kids these days...

Setting cruise in the Dauphin, levelling out at 1500 on a clear blue sky day, soft morning light with the rising sun, coasting out Antigua, yachts in the bay, Guadeloupe to the south, St.Kitts to the north, Montserrat up ahead, and a pod of wales in the indescribably blue sea below. That's bliss. A moment frozen in time.

Nice un Bruvvvva
Always right place at right time.
Got a 206 ride with an owner of a jetranger down at FAST recently. Checked out his swimming pool and house, and have got to say 1.2 in the log book is better than a kick in the gonads.
Top bloke though, and had a few PBF's with him. Thanks again.

P.s i'm sure you know who you are...??

Just launched for a stolen vehicle. Airborne to the coast, dodging the lasers from the fun fares. Cavok. Rigs with their flare stacks in the bay, the ferry lit like a Gin Palace. Towns glittering, people flashing their torches as we close in overhead the abandoned vehicle, two making off across fields, FLIR locks onto 2 heat sources, call dogs in. All this noise on the radio, 3 police channels, ATC: Liverpool John Lennon talking another Easyjet in. Dogs get the scent. 2 persons down. 2 in custody. Peel off - another boring Easyjet talks its way down. Back for tea and medals!!!!
My 82yo mother is staying with us for Easter. Took her and my wife to Caboolture yesterday afternoon, cranked up my trusty old Bell 47J, and took off for a lap of Bribie Island.
The forecast scattered showers didn't eventuate, and the cloud base at 3,000 didn't worry us at 1,000 feet. So we headed up the coast, passing Caboolture. Kept a good eye out, as a Japanese student doing circuits there was confusing north with south and east with west. Continued on over water, reporting in to Maroochydore at Moffat Head, then past Point Cartwright for a touch and go. Departed just before a Qantas RPT arrived, back down the coast until clear of the zone, then inland to home.
Over the hills at 2,500 feet. The approach to home is a series of S bends through the trees, one way in and one way out. Put down with two very happy passengers.
A lovely flight on a perfect day!

Not a whale in sight but the Yorkshire night sky.
Lifted out of a Nidderdale's restaurant's HLS, after a great meal, with my Great Gran 'cooing' from the front seat.
It was one of those evenings when the stars shone extra brightly and LBA was visible soon after lift, 30 miles away.
A straight-forward flight for me but a fantastic 'first; for her.

Bliss interrupted.
Returning from a SAR mission over the GOM flying at 10,000 feet. CAVU in a still wind day and not a cloud in the sky. Mississippi was beautiful from this altitude. Green as far as you could see interrupted only by rivers and lakes and bordered by the Gulf of Mexico. This was true bliss. That is until the pilot spied a yellow smoke trail rising to above our altitude. Being inquisitive he headed toward the cloud only to find out it was emanating from a paper mill. Suddenly the interior of the airplane smelled like rotten eggs from the sulfur di Oxide. A feeling of wanting to puke interrupted the feeling of bliss.

SilsoeSid on page 37 of the "Rotorheads around the world" thread seems to be getting the plum destinations. Belize beaches or climbing Mount Kili.
Maybe we fly out of the same beaut spot so often that we forget how special it is? The average roster does not allow time to smell the roses.
One more "good day" for the reflective ones amongst us?

Darkness all around, crank up the 205, doors open lights on whack over and pick up the swat team, three on each skid. Slide in, swats jump off, pull power and whisk back to do another take..and another take... and another take.. and then the film team catering truck..god that food was good!
Good fun if you can stand the waiting around.

Roll out of bed far to early... Bowl of muesli and coffee to find it's the most spectacular morning, v.light southerly, sun rising over the hills.. Pre flight and fuel up the 120, take off at head west. Over the farm land in the morning golden light, with a little mist but no problems with vis. Decide to divert south and intercept the coast, 500ft along one of the most spectacular coastlines in Oz.. Weaving around the headlands with the calm swell breaking below. Absolute bliss.. Wouldn't be dead for quids.
