The fourth 'T' could be Throttle.
i.e. Do you need to change level ?

Thumbs up

Sounds good Capt. The only other time I have really used the "T"'s is when beacon outbound on an IFR flight. Time Turn Talk, and set QFE...obviously no fourth T there..?!?!

Geoff Dunster of Channel Aviation used to have six of 'em, mainly designed around flying an instrument approach:

Turn (on to the necessary track)
Time (start the watch)
Twist (OBS or maybe altimeter subscale)
Throttle (go down, slow down or both)
Talk (report the beacon outbound/inbound)
Track (concentrate on going in the right direction!)

Works for me.

In VFR nav, I believe it is

TIME : Record
TURN : Set new heading
TALK : Position report if needed / frequency change
TASK : Calculate ETA, gross error check

Happy flying,

Speedbird,

You are indeed correct, the 4th "T" is Task.

How about some P's instead: Proper pre-flight planning prevents poor performance.

I just want to point out that there is no correct or incorrect answer, but time, turn, talk, task is the way I've been taught and it works for me.

Using a different navigation method is fine, as long as it works for them!

You can also use CLEAROFF.

Compass & DI alignment
Log (ie ETAs)
Engine (T's & P's, Alt & Suction etc.)
Altitude (QNH, climbing/descending to)
Radios (nav & comm)
Orientation (lead out features)
Fuel
Forced landing areas

Have a good one, Dave

When entering a hold or leaving a hold:

Turn
Time
Twist
Throttle
Talk
Think (think ahead, preferably 5 mins)

Jetheat,

You are indeed correct. Whatever works for you is best as long as you stick to it.

here are some other useful ones

RAWLEF for holds...

Reason (Rwy Blocked?)
Altitude (lower?)
Weather (below mins)
Location (on inbound course?)
Expect further clearance
Fuel (how much remaining?)

AMORTS approach brief

Approach (make sure you have right one)
Minimums (sector, procedure turn, FAF crossing, DH or MDA)
Overshoot (missed approach)
Radio (tune & identify)
Time (to MAP)
Special (non standard notations)

Hope these help

hmmm
how about the S's
i remeber someone asking me if i knew what the 3 S's that pilots were interested in were.
i guessed:
Sex
Sucking
Screwing

they said that it was actually
Sex
Senority
Salary

but they liked mine better

Eng fail on a light twin:

Firewall everything
Undercarriage UP
Clean up
Kill the dead engine

seems to happily spring to mind in appropriate situations. As for the 'T's', I was always taught:

Time
Twist (HDG bug/OBS needle etc. for new course)
Turn
Talk.

Pre-HAAT and Post-HAATs always serve fine for Nav (will be familiar to some..!)

I use a derivation of the 3 T's - Turn, Time, Chat.

Turn (onto HDG)
Time (start stopwatch)
Comms (chx for freq. change on new HDG
Heading (chx HDG and bug)
Altitude (chx maintain apt. Alt.)
Time (double chx stopwatch)

I like your first one AffirmBrest, you're right it would certainly spring to mind in a fix.

Cheers,
ATCS
