Googling reveals the following: (appears it could work, but there is no due diligence or trust structure to ensure good corporate governance - good luck to Kaare if it is indeed genuine)
All in, the details don't appear odd if not amateur - the cautions probably relate to the company secretary rather than Kaare who has no other directorships apparantly?

Simply a scam
Enough people buy the tickets and then they run the draw. You are essentially funding 1/445 of 45 hours of flying lessons.
If you win they will be for a NPPL and no doubt at a very inconvenient location. But of course you wont so there is no need to worry.

Not even very well-informed - an NPPL does not require 45 hours of training.
This is like those car raffles you see at major airports nowadays. I'd love to win a DB9, but the cost of all the tickets sold covers the total cost of 2 DB9s! In this case the tickets sold as shown do not nearly cover costs, but that has not been updated since February, and the draw is at the end of November!

Well, the DB9's you can 'win' there are also underwritten by Lloyds insurance in case anyone does win. Total rip off, but nice to have a gander on an airport standby! Off topic sorry!

I'm worried about this now, because in their news section they say you can text in to 81808 with"PPL" to enter.
Now Air Cadets, as I was, are young and mad keen on aviation (honest I was) so are likely to do this, however they don't mention how much the text costs, and it could be any amount, couldn't it??
Looks like a barely legal scam to me, but I'm open to correction.

£29 for a ticket, or
2) Enter our SMS competition for £5 for a minimum of 1-in-9 chance of winning one of the above mentioned tickets (Text "PPL" to 81808)
"£5" for a "chance" at having a ticket by text........doesn't fill me with confidence!
Especially given the blokes history someone posted above ^
I'm involved with the ACO and I know of loads of kids who wouldn't think twice about texting in!
I wonder if this "lottery" has been registered and complies with the law?

Hmm, now 448 tickets at £29 ea is over £12k, and the cost of a NPPL is what, £4-6k I'd assume? Leaving a rather hefty wedge left over........and it seems, all his "company" is doing, is running this lottery, which it would seem breaches the quote above?

The general rule is that lotteries cannot be run for private or commercial gain.

Hads anyone informed the Dept for debased Culture, Meeja and Sport, like?
Only just over £4,000 if you choose the cheapest schools, PhilM. Only need to sell 150 tickets to cover outlay, maybe 750 text entries or any combination.
TRon I was talking about the ones in the airports and big shopping centres that sell a certain number of tickets before they ever draw. They have guaranteed to cover the cost of car, their overheads and a fat profit by that stage! The ones you are talking about are usually much cheaper, more unlikely games like "throw 7 dice, all 6s wins the car", which at 1:279,936 odds per throw gives a reasonable insurance rate, even if they do have to send a representative to watch!

Doesn't the website claim to offer a JAA licence? What has the NPPL got to do with the JAA?? NPPL is only a CAA licence, and is not recognised anywhere else.

Both interesting, and both appear to show the above as falling outside the law.
http://www.chorley.gov.uk/upload/pub...noteslic29.pdf
http://www.culture.gov.uk/gambling_a...mpetitions.htm
The site says the following, but it is not registered as a company specialising in such, nor is the ownership of the below aircraft included in the listing for the company's aims posted above:
"Propitious Aviation Limited is a registerd limited company specalizing in Prize Competitions as defined under English law.
The operation of the competitions have passed a legal review to ensure conformity with English law. References from Boyes Turner solicitors are available on request."
Also...from G-INFO - additions 28/03/2005 - 10/04/2005:
G-JJAB
NEW UK
JABIRU J400
PROPITIOUS AVIATION LTD
The price?
Ready Built:-

I tried to inform the Gaming Board, but their email address doesn't exist (their website doesn't work properly either - how incompetent can a government agency be allowed to become?)
