PPL Completion
Hi All,
I started my PPL back in 2005 but never got round to finishing it. I did approx 30hrs (ready for 1st solo). I am now wishing to complete it once and for all.
Does anyone have any good tips etc for me. Use books? Sims? Online training? Intense course USA? Good airfields / prices / offers etc?
I am local to Eastmidlands Airport, Tollerton etc etc

Find a school or club you are comfortable with, that has instructors you can work with, and get back into the air and enjoy learning to fly. You have waited several years, don't rush things.

Hi there.
I have done some flight training at Tollerton previously and also in Australia. I have yet to complete my PPL as I too have had to place this on hold. I am considering completing my training here in Perth, Western Australia which will give me an ICAO licence, or doing an intenisive course in the USA for both JAA PPL AND FAA PPL when funds allow.
From personel experience, the training I recieved in Australia was superior to that in the UK, however, this is only my opinion and personel experience with the club concerned. I think an intensive course is the way to go as you will complete it for less expense with the continuity of training.

If you're local to East Midlands, try Tatenhill Airfield.
It's where I have done all my flying and you don't have the issue of waiting for 737's to land before you can take off etc...
Also, being an Air/Ground airfield, you don't have to deal with a full ATC service until you're airborne - if you intend to use one that is.
I found this is a great way of learning, as I was building my confidence, knowledge and skill etc bit by bit, rather than it all being thrown at me at once.
Just to add a bit of fairness, if you fancy a challenge whilst learning to fly, there's always Derby...

Hi All,
I've just been awarded my PPL flying at Donair, East Midlands Airport. I found it hugely enjoyable and you can miss waiting for the commercial traffic by checking out the arrivals on the net or teletext before booking lessons
I never had to wait what I would call a long time to land or takeoff, I had to do 4 orbits one afternoon for landing traffic, but in the scheme of things thats not bad. Also I feel totally comfortable flying to any 'large' airport because i'm not phased by large aircraft or full ATC.
As the other guys have said, just take you're time and find somewhere that suits you.

Hi thanks for all your advice. I think I may approach these local airfields and see if they can put together some sort of intensive course, and maybe save a few ££ buy bulk buying my lessons!
