I suggest we meet at 11 am somewhere near the IWM. If anyone going knows the area and can suggest a meeting point, please post it here.

Thanks

I might come as well. Probably best place to meet is in the cheesy "Interlude" Restaurant (which is still operating 1940s-style museum catering), which is off to the right (looking from the airside) close to Hangar 1.

Right, weather forecast for tomorrow looks reasonable, so in an hour I'm driving to Shobdon to stay locally overnight and be able, weather permitting, to leave reasonably early tomorrow morning. See y'all tomorrow at Duxford. Look out for little whirly thing (aka R22), G-CHZN.

Had a trip to Duxford a couple of weeks ago. Well, well worth a visit.
My favourite 'plane there? TSR2 without a doubt.
Have a good day -I hope it's better than today (Friday)!

Thumbs down

0900 - cloud base less than 500' in drizzle - I am sure it will improve but as I've promised to install washing machine and dishwasher I shall do that and keep my pink chit for a fair weather day.

Sorry guys - have fun

Well, the west had the best weather today. I went from Shobdon up to Barton - first time through the new Low Level Route, first time I'd done it in a helicopter, first time I'd landed at Barton. Bit cloudy and claggy coming back, but flyable, and good horizontal vis.

Someone who flew out over the Welsh mountains said the weather was lovely with cloudbase above 3000 feet.

We'll manage it some year.

Got to Denham ready to go at 10:00. Duxford was reporting 600' cloudbase and I was in 400'. It finally lifted to about 800' at 14:00 and for what it's worth I went all the way up to Yorkshire in cloud. I was at 5000' and there was no sign of it lightening above me. The cloudbase eventually came up to BKN020 by mid-Lincolnshire but our fly-in was clearly not destined. Still, I think Duxford's a good bet for the next try.

Round of applause for New Bloke's efforts. Any suggestions for a next 'first fly in' or are we going to wait until Spring?

I was talking to Whirlybird on the phone on Saturday. We think the best way would be to wait until the weather looks set for the weekend and just say "GO" Probably means not deciding until the Friday.

With all of this Global Warming we may not get the chance again....IMC rules okay

I'd go by that New Bloke.
I think there is a definite link between how far you plan ahead as to how crap the weather is.
Perhaps by not saying GO til friday we can creep up on it unawares!!
Just checking availability of plane. Going to Thruxton 29/10. AM 4/11, anywhere! 25/11 and 26/11, nothing planned;2/12 nothing planned.
Old Sarum/Compton Abbas/Thruxton always worth visiting for Xmas lunch!!
Cheers Doc. 400 aka Lima Mike, based EGLM

Years ago I remember that on Christmas day a recognised flying club could fly in to LHR. I remember it well only because I was 1st reserve and not one bugger dropped out....hmmmm, quick, over to the ATC forum.
