Hi there,
The info you want is at http://www.basair.com.au/coming_to_australia.shtml
I am from Sydney myself, but have been living here over a decade, and am doing my PPL here at present.
Things are a bit different flying wise at home... so you have to do a short copnversion certification of some sort for local rules etc.
Basair at Bankstown are supposed to be good folks, and they have an excellent website, as does Bansktown airport itself (see http://www.bankstownairport.com.au ) which covers Bankstown, Camden and Hoxton Park - all GA airfields in or near to Sydney.
In particular, and to whet your appetite for a trip to Sydney, why don't you also take a look at the info at the VFR Guide to Sydney at http://www.bankstownairport.com.au/Visual_pilot/ which gives all of the VFR approach and joining info needed for the Sydney Basin Area, and best of all the Sydney Harbour Scenic flight Procedures at http://www.bankstownairport.com.au/V...ydney_harbour/ so you can plan your sightseeing flight over Sydney Harbour
The best bit is the map - makes me homesick... see http://www.bankstownairport.com.au/V...bour/page2.htm

Skua :
You're the bod with the Robin from Rochester, who did the gliding day, right ?
I converted my f/w PPL in Oz by going to the CASA office at Bankstown Airport, handing over my UK licence, medical and logbook with A$50, and came back in an hour to collect an Australian Special licence. That allowed me, with some local procedures training, to fly recreationally in Oz. Except I didn't, I learnt to fly helicopters.
And, Andy, the page you link to has the f/w route for the harbour - the helicopter route, Skua, is 500' from Ryde bridges ( off the top of the page ) to the Harbour Bridge, then a climb to 1000' over the outer harbour. Now THAT'S a view !!

I used basair when i went to oz and they were very good you will need about a day to get the validation what with the paper work and a check ride.
Aircraft hire is cheap about three years back a TB20 cost about £65 /hr and if you go touring as we did for two people it works out slightly cheaper that airline flights.
Oz is a great place to fly but it is BIG and empty so give SAR more than a passing moment in the flight planing and be ready for some long flights ,the longest we did was Townsville to brisbane and that was just over 5 hours with very little in the way of human habitation north of rockhampton.
Finaly you must fly the willamtown inland low level route, a real blast if you like low flying and it,s leagal !

A and C,
Haven't flown the inland lane through Williamtown CTR.
I always take the coastal route which ATC usually require you to fly at 500 ft altitude. Great scenery, especially near Port Stephens and the area just to the north of there.
Only drawback is you sometimes have to do orbits outside the zone while waiting for a clearance.
