Fuel Now only 49p/Ltr!!!!!!!
Just look at the prices quoted on this web site! Surely there must be some way we can get the cost of fuel down? Assuming they are making a small profit on this, the base price must be like low 40p/Ltr! Even with shipping costs etc, you must be able to beat the RIP OFF PRICES we pay over here?
Also, they only charge £40/hr wet for a 172!!!!!!!!!!! If only i could get a green card to go and work in the USA!!!
Comments anyone?
Anyone interested in looking into the logistics of importing 100LL?
Calculated on an exchange rate of $1.94/£1.00

stray10level,
It is certainly an interesting idea, but surely if it was as simple as that it would have been done already? Also, I would think that there would be some rather hefty taxation of the imported AVGAS maing it a financially pointless exercise. Is this not the case?

Oxeagle's right, duty will stuff you. Even without duty, shipping and handling costs must be uneconomic, otherwise all our Avgas 100LL here would be imported from the US. (Take it from me it isnt )
Anyway, its possible to get fuel even cheaper over here. Just find an aircraft that is approved for Mogas, and fly it on a return trip with full tanks to either Channel Islands/IOM/Ireland/France. The nice Mr Brown will happily hand over 47p/litre drawback, making your fuel cost around 41p/litre (at todays prices) if you use it all, considerably less if you dont .

Move to CI and give the chancellor 2 fingers!
Why not just move to the Channel Islands?
As pilots we can cross to the UK mainland in less than 1 hour (35 mins from Jersey for me).
No inheritance tax.
Minimal income tax.
Civilised lifestyle.
Excellent cuisine.
But most importantly - no caravans! (only islanders are allowed to bring them onto the islands)
If the Mrs would wear it I would go tommorrow (if they would have me) - she has the impression that it is a den of murder and mayhem for some unknown reason. (Thankyou Mr Bergerac!)

A question to the wise from the unwashed - would a bog standard avgas guzzling engine be able to run on bog standard unleaded petrol from the pumps? If so, for how long and would it have any adverse effect upon the engine?
I ask because I was asked and said I would ask someone who knew...

I don't wish to upset anybody but there is a drawback with the UK islands, and it isn't the need for money (a problem only with Jersey, I believe). It's the rather inbred or elderly population, lack of "culture" (cinemas, theatres, etc) and (in the case of the IOM) the dreadful weather. I've been to most of these places and it feels like living in a small UK village, with the net curtains probably twitching as you walk past, with everybody gossiping... except if you live in the "right" sort (i.e. expensive property) of UK mainland village you are only a short distance from a train station to London, Brighton, etc.
Just my opinion
I am envious of the IOM, with its minimal income tax, 100% capital allowances, no BIK, an Inland Revenue service which isn't a bunch of deceitful scheming blackmailing b*stards like the mainland one, and a nice airport which is secure from nimbys. You do need a #300 Polartech fleece though.

IOM is great. I am so gutted that I had to move off the island last year for my job!!
Personaly I use Andreas instead of Ronaldsway. If you do think of using Andreas and want to fuel up there PM me as I can give you details of someone who has a bowser there.

This is why many CI "residents" are not to be found on the islands for much of the year! According to a patient of mine who is a tax avoidance specialist nobody is counting days residents spend on the islands (or on the mainland for that matter). Just remember to pay for everything is cash and not use your credit card!!
IO, I would much rather be in St Helier than Peckham at the moment - the ASBO count is just so much lower and handguns are not de-rigeur, also some good restaurants and bars.
The thought of being run over by Jeremy Clarkson puts me off IOM, I agree too bloody cold by half - Jersey has at least 1-2 degrees difference.

A bit of a rant, really - not much to do with Aviation

Which is kind of ironic - as handguns are legal in the Channel Islands but not in Peckham. Not wanting to get TOO political - It just goes to show how out of touch the present Government is with reality - Our crime rates have nothing to do with gun control, and everything to do with Bulls**t European civil rights laws which stop us (and schools) disciplining our children, A PRO-Criminal justice system where a burglar can sue his victim, (Touch on Crime, Tough on the causes of crime? Blair, you W**ker), a crap school system and nothing for kids to do in the Evenings.
Ask the old people and they'll tell you about the pre-war 'good old days' before yobbos and youth culture.
Those would also be the days when people called you 'Sir', children were disciplined, you could own a machine gun and shoot burglars.
I'm glad theres still a little bit of Old England left - too bad you have to visit a small island to see it.

Well said rudestuff,
Not much to add, apart from everyone i know thinks the same. Could it be we all come from the "if you want it, you got to work for it" culture? People today just seem to think the world owes them something Where do we start with trying to put it right? Any suggestions?
PS: Major thread drift!

You can start by voting at the next election!
The only thing I can thank Tony Blair for is that he has, at last, wrenched me from my apolitical apathy and forced me to sit up and take notice.
I am ashamed to say that I have never voted at any election, (and statistics suggest I am certainly not alone) but I certainly will be at the next one, and it won't be for Labour!
If I knew how I would steer this thread drift towards JB!

What does the Mod's post mean
Perhaps he likes life in today's Great Britain and the rosy future; the lowering of decent standards; the obliteration of those things our parents & grandparents fought for etc. and disagrees with the rest of us :
