I don't wish to upset anybody
but there
is a drawback with the UK islands, and it isn't the need for money (a problem only with Jersey, I believe). It's the rather inbred or elderly population, lack of "culture" (cinemas, theatres, etc) and (in the case of the IOM) the dreadful weather. I've been to most of these places and it feels like living in a small UK village, with the net curtains probably twitching as you walk past, with everybody gossiping... except if you live in the "right" sort (i.e. expensive property) of UK mainland village you are only a short distance from a train station to London, Brighton, etc.

am envious of the IOM, with its minimal income tax, 100% capital allowances, no BIK, an Inland Revenue service which isn't a bunch of deceitful scheming blackmailing b*stards like the mainland one, and a nice airport which is secure from nimbys. You do need a #300 Polartech fleece though.
