I have only flown on EK A38O,s and would agree that they are very quiet when compared with Boeing 777 / 747. Would also agree with previouse post about air quality. Enjoy your trip.
Too mean to buy a long personal title
I'm given to understand that the 342 and 343 are quiet for an obvious reason: they use hairdryers rather than engines.

Qf10 a380
Last month my wife & I travelled on Qantas 10, LHR - SIN in Premium seats 36A & B on the upper deck towards the rear of the aircraft.
We were very impressed with the the cabin in the A380.
Most of the flight was smooth, but for about an hour out of Singapore when we encountered light turbulance. The A380 rode the turbulence well, with no apparent adverse yaw (perhaps the turb' was too light)
I particularly liked the cabin, next to our seat's was a side locker, very useful for access during flight. The noise in the cabin was very subdued, almost quiet.

I am flying EK to DXB on the A380 next month - economy
Does anyone have any tips on where the good seats are? Its wife and 2 kids (8 and 6) and I
I see above advice is stay away from the wing due to its size but generally window seats have quite a bit of room
anything else?
Thanks

bit late to get the 4 best seats
www.seatguru.com will assist...
I like to be reasonable close to mid section toilets.
dont do back 3 rows, vacuum toilets are very noisy.
It is too late to get the optimum seats, unless you are very very lucky.
If you have own quality headsets, take those, the IFE starts when you get on board, so plenty to do, but last 3 380 flights problems with one channel of audio.
It also does not shut down as the remove headsets, so maximise your IFE time...
Most pax will not be getting off at DXB, so bag wait is actually quite short.
Wait till you get outside in the taxi scrum, and feel the humidity.....
enjoy 380 and enjoy Dubai.

Do the private noise-cancelling headsets come with an adaptor for the different IFE sockets, or do you have to get one from another source?

Lonkmu - Flew in to BHX some time ago and got great seats, Row 49 H,J,K main deck, at the pointy end so off really quickly at Brum and unlike a 747 where departing passengers from both decks have to merge and queue near the door - the double airbridge made the whole process a lot easier.
Back to the cabin; bags of room, big windows (I nabbed the K seat), brilliant IFE and sound quality -a bit complicated for me (but the 6 year old in front soon had it sussed!).
But the thing that I valued most of all was the absence of equipment boxes under the seat in front (I'm 6' 2'' and in the past have paid extra for more space in premium economy to end up on 777s and 747s with no leg room at all because of those boxes, combined with seat legs) and, if I remember correctly - the seat legs on the 380 were only at either end of each block of three seats, rather than under every seat. Really comfortable and very civilized.
Have a good trip.

It is entirely possible that the A380 type has not yet experienced 'Severe' Turbulence - I have experienced it once in a 33 year career.
As a general rule, turbulence classification by aircrew is always one level (or more) below that of customers. Your "Severe' is our 'Moderate', Your 'Moderate' is our 'Light' and your 'Light' is our "What Turbulence?"
How does the A380 handle turbulence? - Very well, as do all aircraft

sorry for delay, most third party head sets have all the various adaptors supplied.
on 380 no benefit for wind or engine noise as there aint any.
but quality audio, fantastic.

Did my first A380 flight a couple weeks ago FRA --> SFO on LH and loved it. Very quiet (I was in the forward cabin in economy), and the cabin atmosphere was about the most comfortable I've ever experienced. LH has a fairly sophisticated entertainment system for each seat, so there is no lack of something to do. Seats were comfortable (I'm 6 feet tall), too. Extremely smooth takeoff and landing (fair weather). It'll be a disappointment to ride a UA 744 back to FRA next month.

Had the very great pleasure of a business seat from DXB-MAN on the EK380 recently. I had traveled once before in economy but this was an incredible way to fly. Huge seats and so much legroom that I could lie flat and still not touch the bottom of the foot area (and I'm 6 foot)! Service and food was superb and the bar at the back is a great touch. Couple of films on the huge screen and whilst it wasn't HD the picture and sound (noise cancelling headsets too) were excellent, and the seven hours passed in a flash.
Yes it is a bit ugly but do you really care when you are indulging yourself on the top deck with top food and finest French wines. The cabin is also very quiet. Maybe that was partially due to the abscence of screaming kids though
For sure it doesn't come cheap but there really is no other way to fly.

I know what you mean but the silly thing is that I do care!! I don't like riding in aircraft that are not beautiful. I won't start the old debate by saying which is my favourite plane to be in aesthetically!!!
Doubtless I shall ride the 380 one day - but not just yet!

Yes, I have also experienced one Severe in many years much pax flying, in the US about 20 years ago, and I described aspects of it on here a while ago. By surprising coincidence, the captain of that flight PM'd me back, and we had an interesting recollection.
To be honest I'm in no great hurry to fly on the A380. It'll happen some day I guess but I'm not going out of my way for it to happen. When I have to fly on a heavy I still prefer the B747.

Paxboy,
It is a shame that it couldn't be a little easier on the eye. If I could take the entire experience and then sub the type for a 747-400 then I think that would have certainly ticked all the right boxes.
