Not an A vs B snip at all, but how do they actually do it ? Engines further out, or angled more outboard ? More soundproofing ?
Age of design may have something to do with it. One major contributor to cabin noise on the 747 compared to the 380 is the din made by the ventilation system. Is the system a legacy from the original 1960s design? Even if it was new with the 744, that's still a lot older than the 380's design.

I'm given to understand that the 342 and 343 are quiet for an obvious reason: they use hairdryers rather than engines.
